another hurdle in its progress toward the completion of the most successful basketball sea son in the history of the sport here when rutgers was rather easily conquered by the score of 37 to 24 in the new brunswick gymnasium wednesday eve ning thereby chalking up the eighth consecutive victory for the brown and white the lehigh team started off the game in a whirlwind fash ion establishing an early lead which was never threatened smith and mo schaub scor ing in rapid succession from the floor counting five baskets before the elapse of ten min utes as the first half was near ing completion with the score reading 18 to 7 some of the substitutes were injected but even then rutgers was only able to pull their score up to ten points by the end of the half with the start of the second half the regulars again entered the contest and further increas ed this eight point lead to thir teen points by the time the fi nal whistle blew weinstein lead in the scoring for lehigh with four field goals to his credit and three fouls smith seemed to have an un canny eye for the basket caging long shots from seemingly im possible angles on a couple of occasions the passing of the lehigh team was particularly accurate and fast and the con on page 2 col 5 r 0 t c has new roll call plan frosh submerge liberty high with the members of the mustard and cheese club work ing continuously on both cast and chorus material the club is looking forward to one of the most successfuf years in its his tory beginning with the basic foundation of a very good play and building upon it with a good chorus and experienced cast there is no reason in the world why the show this year should not eclipse all previous productions mckinnon and griffenberg are responsible for the scenario which evoked the criticism eastern intercollegiate swimming records so far this season points to the fact that captain harmon's men will be fully occupied in their work sat urday the scarlet team out-splash ed lafayette fifty-three to five a few weeks ago while lehigh had a difficult time in copping a close win over the same ma roon team swarthmore and john hopkins have both fallen before the rutgers natators and the strong navy team man aged to win a decisive meet ov er the scarlet a few weeks ago harry lewis former nation al champion captain garry foster middle states record holder don warner another middle states champion dick levis star of last year's fresh man team al brown intercol legiate breast stroke champion and allen james former scho lastic champion diver will be the men upon whom rutgers will depend for a victory over lehigh saturday lehigh will depend upon the same men who have so ably carried the colors during the present season to turn in a win for the brown and white on saturday con on page 3 col 6 the first meeting of the al exander hamilton club held this term on wednesday evening consisted of a reorganization of the club and a round table dis cussion on china and the pow ers led by t e robinson one of the most important steps in the reorganization was the election of officers of the club from the junior members those elected were : c l smith president f h wilhelm vice president n h smeltzer trea the swimming pool in taylor gymnasium has been closed for the remainder of the school year this decision was reach ed by president richards last tuesday after a conference with members of the faculty who are particularly interested in the condition of the pool the principal consideration leading to this action is the lack of visibility which increases to a marked degree the possibility of drowning or other accidents the large number of students now enrolled in the university and the increasing interest in swimming have made this dan ger a much greater problem than it was even a year or two ago this condition has been under consideration several times in the past year and mea sures for its relief have been attempted the lack of visibility seems to be dependent on two tactors — the dark color of the bottom and sides of the pool and the tur bidity of the water many dif ferent kinds of paint and enam el have been tried but none has been found which would not turn dark in a very short time the turbidity seems to be due to the fact that the present fil ters are unable to efficiently re move the foreign matter which is bound to accumulate in a pool used by so great a number of individuals and in an atmos phere so heavily laden with dust the lehigh pool was con structed at a time when the number of students was less than half the present enroll ment and the air was not so heavily charged with foreign matter from industrial opera tions con on page 4 col 5 last week an expert in swim ming pool construction and senior m e trip plans completed lehigh wrestles yale in hardest meet of season speaking before the members of the beaux arts club more than forty of whom met mon day evening in coppee hall for their first meeting of the sec ond term professor sydney m brown assistant professor of history and political science told of the renaissance in eu rope professor brown selected leonardo da vinci one of the famous artists of the period as the character about whom he wished to speak particularly while da vinci's claim to an en during fame is not based upon a great volume of paintings those four or five which are best known today will probably secure for him always a high rank among the artists of the renaissance prof brown re ferred during the course of his address to the more famous works of da vinci particularly to his mona lisa
