secured his ser vices and on account of the general interest of the subject extend a cor dial invitation to the stodents of any of the other departments who may wish to attend the meeting will be held in the east lecture room of the physical laboratory on wednes day evening 7.45 p m march 4th harrisburg club the harrisburg lehigh club will hold a meeting on next sunday af ternoon at 3.00 p m at the chi phi house seneca and fourth streets all men from central pennsylvnnia should turn out as the plans of the club for the remainder of the year will be determined at this meeting dance after game a very successful informal dance was held after the state game on saturday night the music being fur nished by groman's orchestra there were about thirty couples on the floor for the ten dances and a large number of the spectators re mained to watch them college meeting a short college meeting was held last friday morning in the physical laboratory in the absence of the manager of the baseball team as sistant manager mcmurtrie gave a short talk on the baseball schedule and the need for more men to report for pitching and catching captain galbraith added a few words to mc murtrie's about the same subject captain aman spoke of the pros pects of the track team and urged more men to come out captain duncan also gave a similar talk about the lacrosse team walters said that the 1909 epitome was in good shape and will be out april ist and also that all who had not sub scribed should do so before it is too late 1909 class meeting at a meeting of the junior class held after the college meeting presi dent keife announced the banquet and junior prom committees these committees he explained he had taken the privilege of appointing himself as he did not think the committees elected by the executive committee ' were representative enough the banquet is as follows w stobeaus chairman uptegraff heckinger warner dowling kent and callen the prom committee consists of gonzales chairman aman s r young serfass oorbin harvey and bates the combined musical clubs of lehigh university gave their annual home concert in the south bethle hem opera house on friday night before a very small but enthusiastic audience every number on the pro gram was capably rendered and en cored and the musical association certainly deserves better support from the student body the solo work by g o bason 08 played the piano accompaniment for the violin solos by corbin 09 perm state defeated 24-16 by a strong rally in second half after an indifferent exhibition in the first half of the perm state game on saturday night the basketball team changed apparent defeat into victory in the second winning out by the score of 24 to 16 except at the end the visitors had the advan tage during the first half but in the second period the effect of their four previous games from tuesday to friday became evident and they were not fresh enough to stand the pace almost immediately after the whis tle blew herman scored first for state and for fifteen minutes the home team was on the run their shooting was inaccurate their pass ing ineffective and their unity as a team destroyed the state men on the other hand were at their best in this half funston and herman being especially good on long shots the score varied 3—5 5—5 6—ll 7—13 9—13 with state in the lead dur ing this half anderson street davies keife and reed each secured a goal while funston and herman had two apiece to their credit the team had somewhat recovered from its demoralization during the last few minutes of the first half and with the start of the second this return to its usual form was com plete a remarkable improvement in team work both on the attack and defense soon transformed the aspects of the contest four goals in rapid succession by captain an derson put us in the lead by four points which keife troutman and davies increased to ten the closer guarding of the state men by keife davies and street also prevented them from shooting and kept the ball near our basket a long throw by funston and a successful at tempt on a foul by herman repre sent the visitors total points in this half considering the work of the in dividual players anderson and keife for lehigh and herman and fun ston for state were the most con sistent performers the other men on each team were however not far behind toward the end of the sec ond half anderson sprained his ankle but although limping badly stayed in the game until the end the attendance was even larger than at the swarthmore game and all available space was 10 after which date regular practice will begin in the cage lecture by mr du bois the subject of the college lecture on friday morning by howard w dv bois ex b9 will be british co lumbia it will be illustrated by a large number of views many of which m!r dv bois has appropriately colored on thursday night he will give a talk before the mining so ciety on salted mines in the phy sical laboratory address to civils by w j douglas 94 on wed nesday night on wednesday evening w j douglas engineer of bridges of the district of columbia and a grad uate of lehigh of the class of 94 will address the c e society on concrete in bridge work owing to his long and successful exper ience in work of this kind mr doug las is regarded as one of the fore most authorities in this country on concrete in bridge construction and enjoys the distinction of having built the connecticut avenue bridge across bock creek at washington d c the largest structure of its kind in the world before commenc ing the erection of this great bridge in order that he might have the bene fit of acquaintance with european practice in the building of concrete bridges mr douglas was sent abroad by the united states govern ment to examine and study struc tures of th^s kind during this per iod he made a very comprehensive collection of photographs of the many concrete bridges which came under his observation and it is his intention to illustrate his discussion next wednesday with stereopticon views made from these photographs
