weakened lehigh team by wins in last bouts to be repeated raleigh wins scored on 4 falls one of the most enjoyable in formal social gatherings of the year was held in drown hall last sunday afternoon when more than two hundred students came together to participate in the second college sing while the program itself was an en tertaining one it was the friendly mingling which took place while the ladies of the fa culty served refreshments that made the affair a most delight ful one con on page 3 col 2 e g mccance was in charge of the singing and opened the program with the university hymn from which the stud christmas and saucon halls two of the oldest buildings on the lehigh campus may be combined and converted into an attractive modern recitation hall if plans now under consid eration are approved visscher 99 and burley 94 archi tects of new york have at the request of president richards made a study of the practica bility of thus transforming the two old buildings and have sub mitted plans whereby the pres ent useful space in christmas and saucon halls would be doubled and a single structure of rather imposing dimensions and appearance would be ob tained at a comparatively small expense the proposal as described in which were absurd the entrance of e schaub the rangy center for lehigh in to the game near the end of the first half speeded up the game considerably and enhanced the chances for a greater score by gathering duffy's long shots from the banking board con on page 4 col 7 smith and weinstein played their usual stellar game smith's accurate shots and weinstein's the second half was a repi tition of the first the ball being in the hands of the lehigh team the greater part of the time toward the end of the second half the entire lehigh second team was sent in the band op ening with a very appropriate chopin march for lafayette the lehigh court team gave the added impetus to the spec tacular slide to defeat of the la fayette dribblers when they swept thru a slow moving team to 28-16 victory last saturday night in the taylor gym captain duffy of football fame opened the scoring for lafayette from the foul line but only for a few moments did the maroon passers hold that one point lead for directly the ball was jumped mo schaub dribbled thru for a basket the lehigh quintet held the lead to the end of the game never once being threatened the wild long shots of duffy gave the spectators great cause for amusement some of the shots being from distances lehigh university calendar rutgers courtmen again face b & w varsity baseball men called out first appearance of musical clubs is before i o o f coach jing johnson looks over candidates at indoor practice session rutgers team is strengthen ed by presence of dar want at center post program is well received by 1 50 men — may take two trips this season at b-thorpe frid'y pitchers a need lehigh's mermen suffered de feat saturday at the hands of the army at west point al though the score 40-22 would indicate a large advantage over the brown and white most of the events were closely contest ed and in several instances re sulted in lehigh failing to score the points for first place by only a matter of inches hobbs and hayes did perfect dives but due to the misunderstanding on the part of the judge louis manley they were not given sufficient credit to warrant either of them first or second places hobbs holding the only points for the brown and white in third place in the 50 yard swim raleigh succeeded in pulling ahead of the field and scored lehigh's only first place aside from the relay count his time was 0:27 2-5 which must be cut down to come up to the fast time which rutgers has been making this season if the nata tors are to capture the coveted meet of this saturday army took second and third places in this event reeder and howard following raleigh's wake the 440 yard swim free style resulted in a very poor showing for lehigh's men captain har mon only being able to not at present properly utilized — the commons when the commons was closed a couple of years ago because few ate there any long er there was some thought of converting it into a class room building dirties would eventually pall on the under graduate palate and the result ing demand for a campus res taurant would bring about the reopening of the commons it appears however that the un dergraduate digestion is as ro bust as his prejudices and the commons as such has appar the brown and white court team will journey to new bruns wick on wednesday to engage the rutgers team in a return game with the haverford win added to their increasing string of victories the scarlet's win ning streak remains unbroken the court tilt on wednesday will be the second encounter be tween lehigh and rutgers this year on their home court the brown and white had little trouble in disposing of the scar let quintet 40 to 19 the rut gers team has been considerably strengthened since that time however darwent star center of last year's team returned to college for the second semester and his return to his old posi tion on the team has improved the playing of the new bruns wick team to a noticeable ex tent the first official visit to look over the prospects for the 1926 team and started a large crowd of candidates in limbering up work that indoor work will con tinue and probably be carried on to a greater extent than ever before became appar ent with the gossip that camp coppee former barracks during the s a t c is being renov ated to be completed within a week or two in the meantime the ball players will do their stuff in the lower gymnasium while the invitation was gen eral for all diamond aspirants to start work indoor it is the battery candidates that coach johnson will concentrate on at present the hurling corps was badly shattered by graduation last june losing bob adams and pete dußois the two first string men of last year's staff slim weston and diet rich are the only two pitchers
