to the christian association on sunday evening with the growth of cities have grown up many social questions such as those concerning poverty distribution of wealth child labor capitol and labor and crime all of these are moral questions and are clue in almost all cases to moral deficiency somewhere the morals of the public are the sum of the morals of individuals and we as individuals must feel the im portance of this fact germany is superior to france not because of superior resources but because of superior individuals in order to live well regulated lives we musit have some creed or belief as to the standard by which we 2 re to 1 live religion deals with the relation between man and man and man and god and in religion we find the most satisfy ing revelation of our lives the two principles laid down for us are that a man's success is not meas ured by what he posseses but by his service to his fellow men and that interest in men is an essential characteristic to success there is one danger from mixing with men that one is apt to become shaped to the common mould and lose the independence of thought and action shown by such men as martin luther and erasmus to make our mark in this world we must believe something with all our hearts and belief in righteous ness is the essential when we once start on a crusade for light eousness we can't stop or we shall be dashed on the rocks as would a canoer that started up a swift stream and then stopped paddling he closed his remarks with a plea for each one of us as college men to take our stand and part in the solving of these
