miners begin the year with a good meeting the first meeting of the mining and geological society was held wednesday evening at 8 o'clock in the society's room in williams hall it was decided to hold the monthly meetings during the year on the second wednesday of each month mr f r englesby in structor in geology was elected to honorary membership prof eckfeldt gave a short talk upon his recent trip through old mexico during which he met a number of lehigh alumni who are working there after a short discussion on the coming year's program the society adjourned to partake of the refresh ments served by jim myers 1908 class meeting at a meeting of the junior class held wednesday noon w m don aldson and r a burlingame were chosen to fill two vacancies on the epitome board mccann read a statement of the financial condition of the class after which the meet ing adjourned in a body to view the sophomore-freshman scrap baseball " danny " coogan coach of the 1906 baseball team has been in town for several days wednesday afternoon he had all of last year's men who are in college out prac ticing batting and throwing to bases it is probable that coogan will coach both the sophomore and freshman baseball teams in pre paration for the founder's day game 1909 class meeting at a recent meeting of the class of 1909 t m uptegraff was elect ed athletic representative in place of c r musselman and w r roberts was elected class histor ian boxing club meeting the boxing club held a meeting on wednesday afternoon in the gymnasium the attendance was quite small but the bouts which took place were full of interest to the spectators there will be two or three boxing matches at the smoker on friday night all of which will no doubt be as good as the ones held at former smokers all men who are interested in this branch of athletics are strong ly urged to join the club and take active part in its meetings regu lar meetings of the club are held every wednesday afternoon and other impromptu meetings are held whenever it is possible to get to gether for practice in all proba bility a tournament will be held at an early date so that practice should take place at every oppor tunity notice 1910 class meeting at the meeting of the freshman class held wednesday noon in saucon hall the following men were appointed to take charge of the founder's day sports teams : football lay baseball ewing track dunn frank f grout has resigned from the illinois geological survey to accept a position as instructor in mineralogy at oklahoma state university competition for membership en the brown and white board will start next monday oct i all candidates will report to the editor at 5.30 p m at the board room in christmas hall the following positions are to be filled : one from the held its first meeting of the year on monday night at which the plans to be followed were discussed and the various departments of the book were assigned to different members an announcement of the lined up for a short scrimmage the men are getting into better condition and the play was much faster than in saturday's game with albright several new plays were tried which went off very smoothly no
