the annual meeting of the in tercollegiate lacrosse association of the united states was held sat urday morning october 14 at the : hotel bdngham philadelphia i after the election of officers for the ensuing year the matter of arrang ing the schedule was discussed the following schedule was pro posed subject to the approval of j the different managers : april 28 johns flopkins vs le high at south bethlehem april 28,swarthmore vs stev ens at swarthmore may 5 swarthm'ore vs lehigh at swarthmore 5 johns flopkins vs stev | ens at floboken j may 12 stevens vs lehigh at south bethlehem j may 12 swarthmore vs johns hopkins at baltimore i the second saturday in october at the same place was selected for the 1906 meeting y m c a meeting reception a grand success the annual reception of the y m c a to the college was held in the gymnasium on saturday evening the attendance both of upper classmen and freshmen was very large and these with a large representation from the facuilty and friends of the university formed a most delightful assembly it was the first occasion on which the faculty and students had a chance to meet at a social gather ing where freshman and senior had equal rights the room was beautifully deco rated in the college colors and boughs with their autumn foliage the students began to assemble about 8 o'clock and soon the gym nasium was well filled after a short time spent by the felilows in becoming acquainted a brief pro gram was rendered this consisted of several selections by the college orchestra and banjo club and solos by mrs finne and master john eckroth president drinker was then introduced and after the applause had subsided spoke of a few things which had most im pressed him he advised the fresh men especially not to become care less in their first year here but to form the habit of good honest study our new secrteary mr rogers gave a short talk in which he emphasized the fact that the social side of a student's life is very important a college man may get a good bit from book learning but to go out and try for the different college teams and pub lications will do more to develop him as a man refreshments were served by the students after which the alma mater was sung and the gathering broke up a short dance was held after the reception music being furnished by the college orchestra the sunday evening meeting of the young men's christian asso ciation w r as as usual held in christmas haiti 1 at 6.30 p m rev paul de schweinitz was the speaker of the evening he chose as his subject motives for missionary activities the discourse was di rected chiefly to showing why col liege men especially should be in terested in missions rev de schweinitz is secretary of missions of the moravian church which is one of the great est of missionary churches a good amount was pledged for the support of missions for the present year it is probable that several mission study classes will be organized in the near future during the past summer vaca | tion the senior mechanical engi neers obtained employment for the most part in their own line of work t h luders was employed at the phosphor-bronze smelting co ltd philadelphia j it f eigenbrodt was in the i draughting room of adams and !
