manager n g smith has re ceived a letter from j w thurs ton 96 manager of the pittsburg lehigh club in which he says that the club has chartered a special train and wi'l take several hundred men down to the washington and jefferson game on thanksgiving the club invites the foot ball team and all the men who accompany it on the trip to a smoker at the union club of pittsburg which is on the 20th floor of the frick building this smoker wi'l be held on the evening after the game at 8 o'clock officers of the phila lehigh club president w r pierce 87 first vice-president s e ber ger 89 second vice-president c f carman 99 trustees g g hood 83 ; h a bonzano 88 secretary and treasurer moriz bernstein 96 4344 germantown avenue a t bruegel 88 is with the fairbanks-morse mfg co beloit wis meeting of the c h s club the central high school club of philadelphia was entertained at the home of prof rihcards on sat urday evening november 4 the programme consisted of music,reci tations ghost stories etc and wound up with the singing of col lege songs and the alma mater after giving the c h s and the lehigh yells the meeting was ad journed in addition to the clubc 1 ub the guests included mrs j l stewart and the misses lambert acker thayer moore grace the misses josephine and mini klein and the misses richards the whole affair was very enjoyable and will be remembered for a long time by those who had the good fortune to be present c c rutter 96 is with the philadelphia rapid transit com pany on last thursday evening a very well attended meeting of the stu dents in the school of general lit erature was held in the forum room saucon hall to organize a classical and literary society be sides the students president drinker profs blake and good win drs woods and davis and messrs fox and emery were pres ent to give advice n n merriman 05 was chosen chairman pro tern and he asked the members of the faculty to speak a few words on the project president drinker gave it his hearty endorsement and predicted its success if carried out as begun prof blake spoke of his gratifica tion in the initiative of the students of the department in organizing a i society and that through it his hopes of past years should reach fruition he pointed out that there was much to be gained from the example of the technical societies prof goodwin assured the stu dents of his sympathy with the movement and pictured its advan tages in alluring terms mr emery in reply to a ques tion said that it shou'd be left to the members of the two societies as to whether the new organization and the forum should coalesce it was his opinion that the forum should take the initiative walters 07 said that there was little thought or desire among the stu dents for such a union dr davis suggested that promi nent outsiders be sometimes se cured to talk to the society it seemed to be the universal opinion of the speakers that the freshmen should be admitted to membership as soon as possible thursday evening november 1 6th was decided upon as the time of the next meeting mawhinney 06 was unani mously elected president and the other officers chosen were walters 07 vice-president ; brothers 08 secretary and reynolds 07 treasurer the president ap pointed the following committees to draw up a constitution rey nolds schnabel kinsey and wood ring 07 to decide the amount of the dues charles 07 bell and kotz 08 to arrange programme for next meeting merriman 05 ;
