class day exercises base ball calculus cremation university sunday an excellent performance last saturday evening the so phomore class held a most success ful calculus cremation on the university campus the weather was uncertain early in the even ing but cleared up by eight o'clock from eight-thirty to nine-thirty the allentown band rendered the following musical program in a very excellent manner : march washington greys grafula overture morning xoon and night siippe gems from mile modiste herbert intermezzo gleaming star harts selection " amorita .... csibulka gems from the classics tobani march america .... chambers at half-past nine the court en tered the stage in a procession car rying the prisoner osborne calcu lus who wore an old tan coat fa miliar to generations of lehigh students the members of . the continued on eighth page much of the success of a class day depends upon having fair weather the class of 1906 whose exercises were held monday after noon on ihe campus had this ele ment in its favor in a pleasing de gree and the graduates themselves supplied the rest it was about half-past two that the class headed by the allentown band marched down from packer hall to take their seats on the platform erected on the campus bordering brod beid avenue an audience so large that many had to stand composed of visiting relatives and friends of the graduates townspeople and un dergraduates was assembled to greet them music by the band occupied the time of preparation devoted to the lighting of pipes and drinking of punch by the 1906 men then the senior president estep tillard gott made a shorr address of welcome in which he spoke of the seriousness that min gled with the joviality of his class mates upon tin's occasion at the continued on second page lafayette 5 lehigh 3 on saturday afternoon lehigh lost the third and last game of the year scheduled with lafayette while we were defeated in all the games from our standpoint there was nothing to be ashamed of in any of these contests when the age and experience of both teams are compared the 4-2 3-0 and 5-3 ! cores on 1 y redound to our credit in saturday's game newberry pitched for lafayette and quinn did the twirling for our team newberry had the best of the ar gument with respect to hits and . strike-outs ; an advantage which the splendid fielding of our team could not offset all of this how \ ever reflects no dishonor on quinn ; for johnny pitched like a veteran tn the fourth inning with two : men on base tim long knocked \ a home run over the right field , fence barker did the same thing , for his team in the eighth inning , but was unfortunate in not having continued on second page baccalaureate sermon by the rt rev leighton coleman s t d ll d bishop of delaware open thou mine eyes that i may behold wondrous things out \ of thy law — psalm 119 18 life is but the register of out : comparisons such are the multi ; plicity and variety of the objects j surrounding us and demanding our attention and service that we are continually engaged in choosing to which we will yield plainly enough we cannot ' devote our selves to them all and so we com pare one with another until we reach a preference which thence | forth dictates our course at least for a while it was thus that you in the be ginning were led to come to le high university rather than to any other of the numerous institu tions of learning whose doors pre sented themselves to you so invit ingly it was thus again that you continued on fourth page vol xiii graduating class of 1906 commencement edition the brown and white no 6 south bethlehem pa wednesday june 13 1906 lektgh university
