alumni note friday nov 4 at 11 a m col lege lecture by john p clark ph d ll d of columbia univer sity at the physical laboratory at 4 p m seciet foot ball prac tice on lehigh field saturday nov 5 foot ball game at ithaca n y — cornell vs lehigh sunday nov 6 at 9.15 a m ., bible study classes at christmas hall at 6.30 p m student meeting at christmas hall address by mr tinker chemical society a meeting of the chemical so ciety was held in the chemical laboratory thursday night the meeting was called to order at 7.30 o'clock after the reading of the minutes of the last meeting 1'res ellwood announced that after the meeting a spiel would be hekl at charlie renig's some interesting papers were then read denlinger read an instructive j aper on cavendish's contribu tions to the science of chemistry gcing back to the time when cav endish first appeared in the scien tific world mr denlinger showed how this great scientist had aided chemical research the paper proved highly instructive mr ellwood read the next pa per on iron and steel analysis employed in thepittsburgdistrict his paper went to show how mod ern science had cut down the time required in the analysis of steel he discussed the numerous de vices and ingenious contrivances which the modern chemist now uses mr ell wood's paper was well received mr ellwood was followed by mr smith who read a well-pre pared paper on rosendale ce ment starting from the time that the rock was taken from the giound he showed the different methods employed in preparing 1 . for the market as the subject of cement manu facture has become such a factor in the chemical industries mr smith's paper droved very interest ing to those present the meeting then adjourned to charlie's where the inner man was refreshed to his heart's content burr macintosh intends to pre sent lafayette college math a 50 000 gymnasium interesting debate held a very interesting and instructive program was rendered at the forum meeting in saucon hall last \\< ednesday evening 1 he m ■< ting was called to order at 7.30 o'clock bv president merriman the only business transacted was the elec tion to membership of the follow ing class of 05 — mickley class of 07 myers walters freedman reynolds sokiana and archibald ;
