the men who braved the inclem ent weather sunday night were more than repaid for their efforts in listening to a talk on bible study by prof richards of the metallur gical department the topic was touched upon laigely in \ personal way and from a practical standpoint the speaker especially emphasizing the fact that nothing was to be accepted unless it was reasonable many men whose knowledge of the bible bfgan in the sunday school class have been led to be lieve that the book is infallible from genesis to revelation these men sometimes know a lot about what is in the bible but very little about its settings the social or lit erary environments of the people of the times which are absolutely necessary for an intelligent study when we remember that the bible rather the old testament is ?. record covering hundreds of years and that its contents are facts rather than details after such an outside study one wonders how it is that the book contains so few errors one of the greatest reasons why a man should study the bible is lie cause oi the remarkable iufhienee it has had upon the world it should be studied in a way that will bring out its general tenor with an absence of prepassion a desire to find the truth and as an inspiration for the upbivlding of character how are we to test the truth test it by its reasonable ness coupled with an open mind always desirous to learn the truth in reverend spirit accept that which is not and suspend judgement on things about which you are not sure such a study will not only make a man reverence the book itself bpt will help him build a better charac ter for himself and those about him rendered a very impresive soprano solo accompanied by mr robert bird 02 more information wanted attention of lehigh men both alumni and undergraduates is called to the fact that the archives are now better housed and ar ranged than ever before in their existence they contain a large amount of very interesting and valuable material relating to the past history of the university nearly all this matter has now been indexed proofs have been made of all the old cuts used in ol i epitomes class-books and other publications — and all is readily ac cessible the archives are intended ioc use and interested parties may have access to the same by applying to the archivist about two years ago the under signed sent forth an appeal to le high men through the columns of the brown and white for assist ance in helping to build up the ar chives in i manner consistent with the object of the same the ar chives should contain all publi cations of any nature whatever is sued by the university authorities the undergraduate bodies or the alumni as associations or individ uals in the shape of books pam phlets posters tickets programs broadsides circulars cards illus trations photographs or articles ui tragazines or newspapers and all ether publications which in any wi»y may affect the university the alumni or undergraduates ;" also — such trophies and objects as have been connected with the history of the universitv this appeal me with some response but a very slight one from the above it is ap parent that much archive material must of necessity be overlooked by the archivist simply because he may not know of its publication or existence it is therefore earnestly asked that all lehigh men consider it their duty to turn over such ma terial as may come to their notice to the archivist or cause his attention to be directed to it due acknowl edgment will always be made for the same h eckfeldt 95 archivist foot ball scores yale 12 princeton o pennsylvania 18 ; indians o state 12 dickinson o columbia 12 cornell 6 address to bible classes on sunday morning all the bible classes met m the association room in christmas hall where mr w j miller ji gave a talk on the character of conducting bible study by the individual in his remarks he pointed out that first this study should be made a daily habit we can no more think of keeping our bodies in good health without daily food than we cun hope to maintain and develop our moral nature without proper aaily sustenance secondly our study must be systematic satisfy ing results are reached in affairs of every day life only by applying sys tern to our work thirdly we will appreciate the bible in the same measure as we become acquainted with all its parts fourthly we must be practical in our studs itheorv in cur college education is only of value where it serves a pi actical purpose it is our duty to apply the teachings of the bible by properly influencing our asso ciates finally our study must be prayerful without which our efforts in this work will show little results president drown will be absent from his duties at the university for a few weeks owing to his hav ing undergone an operation at st luke's hospital lehigh 4 — syracuse 30 lehigh played her first game with syracuse university last sat urday and owing to the crippled oondition of the team and poor headwork at critical moments failed to make a good showing syracuse winning by the score of 30 to 4 during the first half neither side could make consistent gains through its opponents le high's repeated fumbles and poor judgment in not taking advantage of the wind in punting kept the ball in her territory during the second half lehigh spasmodically showed improve ment on the attack but the defence weakened and went to pieces al lowing syracuse to plow through the line almost at will only the splendid tackling of reel prevented a much larger score bachman made three attempts at goal by drop kicking cne of which was successful gott made one trial from placement which failed on all four attempts the line held well so that none of the kicks were blocked the work of both the ends was the feature 01 the game pentz and henry breaking up everv attempt to circle them henry's shoulder was pretty badly bruised but it s hoped it will not prove serious enough to keep him out of the la fayette game the freshmen tackles olcott and ballinger did very creditab 1 e work and showed promise of de veloping into strong aggressive players gott who has been acting cap tain during captain waters tem porary disablement won the toss and chose the west goal having a strong wind at his back on the kick-off lehigh received the ball and easily made first down twice the next two plays only netted two yards and on the third down with three yards to make root gave the signal for a buck instead of taking advantage of the heavy wind and punting syracuse held and got the ball but immediately lost it again as they could not pierce lehigh's stubborn defence she soon re gained the ball as lehigh repeated lie v former error and tried to buck instead of kick a try at goal proved successful syracuse 4 ;
