brown & white meets maroon in 59th annual clash on taylor field tomorrow monster pep meeting to be followed by p-rade thru bethlehem bad breaks cause upset of wendell's team — look for comeback big lafayette team has scored 194 points to opponents 43 wendell gives final workout to strengthen offense — line bolstered by har mon's return record means little defeated but once four good speakers new spirit shown by this evening the spirit of beat lafayette which has been constantly rising will find a means of expression at the an nual lehigh-lafayette smoker which as usual will be held in the gym the rooters of the brown and white will need no pep meeting but merely an op portunity to express their feel ings if the present signs are any criterion con on page 6 col 1 as usual the smoker will be a big feature in the program of events since it is one of le high's oldest traditions too much cannot be said in approbation of it several wrestling matches have been scheduled which will lehigh's to play more than a small portion of the con on page 6 col 6 lafayette opened its season with a game of midseason cali bre when it managed to defeat the fast muhlenberg team by the score of 20 to 14 borrelli the speedy halfback of the muh lenberg team scored both touch downs for his team one on a fifty yard off tackle dash and the other a straight end run of fifteen yards the maroon and white functioned better than had been expected the back field showed wonderful line cracking ability capt gebhard smashing through for gains of five to twenty yards the following saturday the leopards travelled west to pittsburgh and defeated the strong pitt team by a score of the rival captains beat lafayette captain merrill the rival coaches alone have given lafayette an enviable place in the having been graduated from the university of pittsburgh in 1921 he went to allegheny college at mead ville penna and assumed the responsibility of showing the blue and gold how to become champions in which is just across the river from easton will be remember ed as being the home of charlie berry last season's maroon captain red played fullback on the phillipsburg high school team for four years after which he went to blair academy star ring on the football team there he matriculated at lafayette in september 1922 gebhard immediately report ed for football and played on the freshman team that year the following year he reported for the varsity under the tutelage of jock sutherland who was then head coach at lafayette while he made the team that year it wasn't until the follow ing year that
