notice basket ball lehigh defeats swarthmore lehigh defeated swarthmore last saturday evening in the gym in a fast and interesting game the victory came as a surprise for the visiting team had recently defeated dartmouth while lehigh had just been defeated by the new england team for lehigh travis and anderson played the best game shooting five and six of lehigh's goals respectively for swarth more farquhar played the star game shooting twelve fouls out of fourteen trials at goal turner the captain to the lacrosse team also played a good game at center covering his man well and shoot ing four goals for his team for the first few minutes the game was in doubt but lehigh soon took the lead and maintained it for the remainder of the game the score at the end of the first half was 20-15 at the end of the second it stood 34-26 the game was rough and replete with fouls on both sides lehigh being the worse offender swarthmore how ever made twice as many goals from her chances as did lehigh the line-up : swarthmore lehigh farquhar forward troutman price forward anderson turner center pierce dill guard berg palmer guard travis mcmullen goals from field — anderson 6 berg 1 travis 5 troutman 1 pierce 1 farquhar 2 turner 4 dill 1 goals from fouls — farqu har 12 berg 5 mcmullen 1 ref eree — sinclair swarthmore um pire — daughtery lehigh time of halves 20 minutes an informal dance was given after the game the team met after the game and elected george washington leßoy travis of flushing n v class of 1907 cap tain for 1906 travis has played a star game all season at guard he has had a long prep school experi ence and was a member of last year's squad he will make a val uable leader for next year's varsity the l u chess club will play a match of ten boards with the lincoln republican club of beth lehem on friday evening march 10 at the republican clnb rooms on market street bethlehem by rutgers debating team on saturday evening lehigh's debating team was defeated at new brunswick by the rutgers team on the subject resolved that the neutral powers should interfere by force if necessary to end the war between russia and japan the affirmative side was upheld by rutgers who was represented by the following team : welcome w bender 05 louis bevier 3d 06 simon blocker 05 the negative side was taken by lehigh whose team was as fol lows : wallace martin 05 m h kuryla 05 harry r lee 06 the judges were : prof frank thilly of princeton ; stauffer second on the clubs notice donations to metallur gical and mineralog ical departments the senior banquet will be held on next friday evening at 9 p m at the hotel wyandotte no senior can afford to miss this last banquet price 1.75 tickets may be obtained from the commit tee clay chairman kline leonard payne the technical working library of the late prof b w frazier con sisting of nearly a thousand books including journals and periodicals has been presented to these depart ments by mrs frazier the col lection is almost indispensable for the continuance of the high stand ard of instruction in these depart ments set and maintained by prof frazier and the gift is gratefully acknowledged by the staff of the departments and by the faculty present to c e depart ment
