article ii object section 1 the object of this organization shall he twofold : first to promulgate news concern ing the university throughout the country and exercise influence to have all such news published sec ond to exercise a just and ade quate censorship over all news falling under the dominion of the club membership article iii section 1 all members of the brown and white board the burr board and the arcadia society shall be ex-offlcio members of the lehigh university press club section 2 in addition to the members provided for in section 1 article 111 all students acting in the capacity of newspaper report ers shall be members of this club section 3 any student who shall show an active interest in carrying out the object of this club shall be eligible to membership article iv officers section 1 the officers of this club shall be a president vice-pres ident secretary and treasurer section 2 the president shall be at the time of election a member of the junior class the vice-presi dent shall be at the time of election a member of the sophomore class the secretary may be a member of either of the intermediate classes article v duties of officers section 1 it shall be the duty of the president to call meetings at intervals as hereinafter provided for or upon the request of five members of the club to preside over all committees which he or the club at large shall deem neces sary and to see that these commit tees perform their duties faithfully and render to the club exact reports of their transactions section 2 the duties of the continued on third page excellent schedule arranged manager henderson has suc ceeded in getting an excellent schedule for this year's team there are no waits between meets and the meets are all with colleges promi nent in this branch of sport the schedule consists of four meets and a relay race this is the first time in a long while that there have been four meets in one season the schedule is as follows april 29 — university of penn sylvania relay races at philadel phia may 6 — new york university at new york may 13 — rutgers at south bethlehem may 20 — swarthmore at swarthmore may 27 — lafayette at south 1 bethlehem the outlook for a successful sea son this year in track is the best that there has been for many years all of last year's team are back with the exception of mccleary so that with the material in the fresh men class capt van duyne hopes to have a winning team all freshmen are especially urged to come out and try for the team following is a list of the fresh man candidates at present : pierce sayford peters miles johnstone francis daub torrey luckie jes sup bressler stein levering heck saenz ganser brickner comins kamara landis collins harris goytisolo brothers tun stall stiles schmertz behney hatter levan and bayless with more meets than formerly freshmen will have more chance to make their l's the records of the college as a general rule are 1 not as good as they might be there is especial need for hurdlers and high jumpers but this does not necessarily imply that there are good men for all the other events there are olenty of opportunities for anybody to make his l if he will come out and faithfully and conscientiously try for the team the more who come out and try for the team the better the team lehigh will have some of the best runners at a good many former pitcher of the baltimore national league team has been secured as coach oi the club for the season of 1905 maul will be here for three months beginning march 17th the upper classmen will remember the successful season of 1903 when maul coached the team during this season two out of the three lafay ette games were won by lehigh which was enough to make the sea son a success notice causes of he geat war dr taka sugi uses a stereopticon in his lec ture work - this lecture has been pronounced an intellectual treat timely and interesting of phenomenal interest of permanent value eloquent and persuasive we append a brief history of the japanese lecturer's career dr takasugi was born in the castle town of hlirosaki north eastern japan and is of the sa muri or soldier class he was educated in the common schools of japan at to-o-gikiku college where he studied under hon suti ka chinda depauw 81 now vice minister of foreign affairs win ning a fellowship ; at depaauw university graduating with the class of 91 with ph e and s t b degrees two years later 1893 he received at boston university his ph d since 1893 dr takasugi has been engaged in educational and church work in japan for three years he taught at hirosaki and nagasaki for three years he held the chair of philosophy < in aoyama college at tokyo the chief metho dist institution of japan here he was also the pastor of the college church in 1899 dr takasugi was ap pointed to the chair of english lit erature in the imperial college at sapporo one of the largest of the strong educational institutions es
