vol xii lehigh university south bethlehem pa wednesday june 14 1905 graduating class of 1905 university sunday base ball calculus cremation university day thirty-seventh annual com mencement the thirty-seventh annual commencement of lehigh univer sity was held this morning in the packer memorial church a large body of relatives and friends gath ered to witness the exercises which were of an exceedingly impressive nature the salutatory oration was de livered by lewis frederick blume who spoke upon the subject the education of the engineer following the salutatory address came the contest for the williams gold medal rexford archibald hor rower and michael henry kuryla were the contestants and both spoke on the same subject the federal regulation of inter state commerce the alumni address was deliv ered by h s miner a c 88 samuel henry fleming delivered the valedictory oration fie dis cussed the possibilities of the continued on second page baccalaureate sermon by the rt rev j h darling ton d d on last sunday morning the packer memorial church was crowded with the friends and rela tives of the class of 1905 who had come to hear the baccalaureate ser mon the services were conducted by the rt rev e talbot dr g h sterling and rev s u mit man assisted by the nativity choir the rt rev james henry dar lington d.d.,bishop of harrisburg who delivered the sermon chose as his text acts 2 : 17 18 : i will pour out my spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your old men shall dream dreams and on my servants and my handmaids i will pour out in those days of my spirit and they shall phophesy the speaker first dwelt upon the fact that the day was whit sunday and recalled the various ideas con nected with it but especially that it continued on second page lehigh defeats albright in well played game lehigh 12 albright 1 lehigh defeated albright sat j urday june 10th on lehigh field by the score of 12 to 1 a new line-up was tried mackall and rowe going in as the battery rowe pitched an excellent game and his support was of a gilt-edged order as a result albright was able to score only once captain snyder started lehighs scoring by driv ing out a homer to left field scoring steiner in the following inning the locals landed on eisinger and scored five times clinching the o-ame steiner root and mackall played excellent fielding games while the hitting of the latter sny der and morsack was far above the average the score albright continued on second page a successful performance calculus cremation the initial performance of commencement week was held on saturday even ing the evening was cool and pleasant and an unusually large crowd turned out to witness the performance the cremation was a grand success in every particular the program was printed with out any especial cover design this year a very artistic design had been selected and a cut of it made but the math department put in an objection and it was not printed the judge — whose name cannot be printed — promptly at the ap pointed hour endeavored to call the court to order after much piping and yelling the disorderly crowd took on the dignified attitude of a jury and the trial began the prosecutor j b reynolds in a very able and convincing man ner outlined his case against the criminal and was supported loudly by the rabble the attorney for continued on second page commencement edition the brown and white no 62 r h o.a.e ronan ib o o 12 o o uck c f o o 2 o o
