editor brown and white : sir lf — if we may be permitted to trespass upon your space we would like very much to take advantage of the columns of the brown and white in order to lay before the undergraduates of the university some matters of importance con cerning the 1905 epitome which is now in preparation this annual though necessarily largely categorical in character nevertheless offers by far the most attractive field for artistic and liter ary work of any in the university unusually liberal prizes have this year been offered in both of these branches and yet the competition has scarcely begun so there is a splendid opportunity for any one who can draw or who can write an interesting story or a clever verse or doggerel to try to get one or another of these awards besides the epitome representing as it does the university has a wide cir culation not confined alone to the undergraduates and it will be no small satisfaction and no mean honor for a man to have one or more drawings or articles in it even if he fail of an award the subject of gags " also calls for some mention gags if they are good ones make one of the most interesting features of the epitome the " gag box in packer hall was putthere expressly for the purpose of gathering up the good ones which are happening on every side ; so if every one would write down any joke he hears and put it in the box the good work would be helped mightily finally we would like to call the students attention to the epitome registration every junior sopho more and freshman should make it a point to fill out at his very earliest opportunity one of the blanks in packer and christmas halls according to the instructions posted above the collection boxes it is to every man's personal in terest to comply with this request
