notch shape exemplify that competi tion is the life of trade the favors are being passed out as you enter and even that sophis ticated girl from new york ov er there shows signs of being happy which attention but how the second orchestra tryouts monday cross countryteam leaves for cornell cheering sec to be f & g for laf.game mustard and cheese accepts scenario play committee pays visit to ned wayburn in new york so it was decided at meeting of board of control on monday more men urged to report regardless of whether they have instrument here team will arrive in ithica early — will go over course tonight chorus progressing other sections taken meet should be fast glee club list probably the most brilliant event on the social calendar for the house party will be the sophomore cotillion dance to be held friday evening in the gymnasium dancing will be continuous from nine o'clock till two o'clock with syncopa tion furnished by polk's pirates and the great white fleet or chestra the success of the dance is assured the sophomore cotillion has always been one of the foremost social events at lehigh ranking in importance with the junior prom and the senior hop this year pains have been taken to make the cotillion even a great er success than it has been in previous years if this could be possible since the members of the cot illion club have just been elect ed they have not yet had time to organize so the general house-party committee has made all the arrangements for this dance permission has been giv en to the freshmen to attend the cotillion as they have not had sufficient time to arrange an affair of their own this breaks a precedent of former years which reserved the cotil lion for the three upper classes con on page 4 col 3 in previous years all social events have been held in drown hall but realizing that it was inadequate for a dance of this the second lehigh valley football classic will be staged in taylor stadium on saturday afternoon when the brown and white warriors clash with the representatives of muhlenberg college muhlenberg went to easton on september 26 and gave lafayette the scare of their lives by holding them to a 20-14 victory so the coming game promises to be far from the easy game which some have imagined it will be the last of the three local classics of course is the lehigh-lafayette strug gle which will take place in tay lor stadium on november 21 just what the outcome of the lehigh-muhlenberg game will be is largely a matter of con jecture but there is no doubt that the spectators who witness the game will see a real fight when the two rival teams oppose each other muhlenberg is pin ning its faith in nick borelli star back and is confident of taking home the bacon although even they realize that will not be the easiest job they have ev er undertaken on the other hand lehigh is just as deter mined to keep that choice piece of meat right here in bethle hem and thereby hangs the struggle although lehigh's defeat of rutgers last saturday was sweet it was also expensive for harmon guard received an injury to his arm which will con on page 3 col 2 grid schedule for 26almostcomplete alpha kappa psi held smoker mon although not officially an nounced several games are already certain tomorrow . evening october 31 lehigh's first house party in two years will close with the arcadia dance which is to be and dale experts of cornell the race will be run over their regular five mile course at 11 30 saturday morning con on page 4 col 6 this is cornell's first meet of the season and they have only two veterans on the team capt craig and houghton neverthe less they have higley rhodes mcginn and hammond all of whom are good runners and us ed to the grind of cross country racing they will in all prob ability be fast for coach moak ley is noted for sacrificing stam ina for speed and he intends to run more than seven men for trial purposes cornell should be able to give a good account 1 con on page 2 col 4 the play that is to be produc ed by the mustard and cheese club this coming year is to be an exact reproduction of a three day house party there will be scenes of proms and fraternity houses a chorus of twenty four will be the students and their girls while there will be the leads chaperones faculty members butlers and everybody else who go to make the house party a success last saturday j r morris mckimmon and gruffenberg who are writing the play visit ed ned wayburn at his studios in new york they spent some time together discussing the play and mr wayburn compli mented them on its originality many valuable suggestions were given by mr wayburn and are being worked into the play morris who is also coaching the chorus is very pleased with their dancing it is requested four new members initiated by tau beta pi on monday yearlings battle muhlenberg frosh tomorrow at home on monday october 26 try outs were held for the sym phony orchestra and the turn out was not as good as was ex pected the number of men that turned out was entirely in sufficient for a good sized or chestra next monday novem ber 2 try-out will again be held for any new men who wish to come out anybody who can play a mandolin violin viola bass violin cello or mandolin should come out because they will be needed badly any men who do not have their instruments at college but can play any of the above men tioned instruments especially a bass viola or cello are urged to report next monday as instru ments will be loaned to them last friday's issue of the brown and white had a list of the names of those who are in the glee club this list was not complet since then only in cluded the new men the fol lowing is a complete list of men who are to appear at the reg ular rehearsal next thursday will take place was gleaned from action taken by the board of control on mon day by which it was decided to have the cheering section in section f and g in the south stands these are the same sec tions that have been in use for this purpose throughout the season for the past several years the cheering section has always been moved down at least to h and g and the fact that sections will remain un changed should meet with the approval of the students it is likely that the first choice seats for students will be in one of the adjoining sections but this has not as yet been definitely decided other action taken by the board at this meeting was the ratification of two games for the football scrubs one will be with kutztown normal school at home on november 14 and the other will be with allentown prep away on november 20 a committee was appointed to determine practical methods for the adminstration of the newly acquired steel field after it will have been taken over the per sonnel of the committee is m l jacobs prof f v larkin con on page 3 col 3 tau beta pi honorary engin eering fraternity founded at lehigh in 1885 and which now has chapters in almost every large college and university in the country held initiation of four new members in drown hall monday evening the new members were required to do all manner of problems as part of the initiation stunts and were hard at work with tables and slide rules for several hours last evening the new members iniitiated were j a schmidt l a browta and g v mcgurl the first three are seniors but mcgurl is a junior and was cho sen as wilbur scholar for this year the local authorities have been busy during the past few weeks arranging a football sche dule for the fall of 1926 the results of these efforts seem to indicate that lehigh will have one of the most attractive sche dules ever arranged for a brown and white team of course at this early date the de finite schedule cannot be finally announced but it has progressed somewhat beyond the tentative stage in that several of the games are assured and others depend principally upon details four of the teams which are fixtures in every brown and white schedule will again be in cluded they are gettysburg muhlenberg rutgers and la fayette the first three to be played at home swarthmore is being consid ered as an early season game be fore the gettysburg game but it will be scheduled only on condi tion that it be played at home if this game is not scheduled it is not likely that any game will be played before the gettysburg contest con on page 4 col 5 princeton will again be in cluded the struggle again to burr art notice members of the art staff of the burr and men in all classes desiring to compete for positions on the art staff are requested to meet wil murt in the burr room drown hall monday evening the honor ary business men's fraternity alpha kappa psi held a smok er in coppee hall to acquaint freshmen with the fraternity its history and its qualifications for membership con on page 3 col 6 after a few remarks by the president bob freeman on the fraternity in general dr carothers head of the depart ment gave a short talk he first gave a short history of bus iness administration outlining it from obscurity one hundred years ago to its vast popularity today showing its development in the colleges from the whar ton school to almost every big college or university in the country he said that there were three types of colleges in regard to the courses : those who accepted it fully and had cours es those who had the course but called it by another name and those who did not have such a course but included it in their graduate school such as har vard he then went into the course and explained it a little declaring that it was not a music composers writers of music for the mustard and cheese show will please turn their work in to gairns at the delta phi house immediately the brown and white year lings will do battle with the muhlenberg freshmen at tay lor field this saturday cusick's protege's have been undergoing stiff practice for the last week and as a result of this are ex pected to present a very good appearance this saturday thus far the team has ex hibited speed but lack of weight has proven a handicap since the game is played on home ter ritory it will be possible to have a greater number of the squad present so that material for con on page 2 col 5 on tuesday varsity and freshman candidates for the con on page 3 col 1 wrestling team reported at the gym for the first meeting of the season many veterans ans wered the call of the mat and others are expected to report at the close of the football and soc cer seasons captain best pol iska beck and lewis all mem bers of last years varsity
