that the muh lenberg game will be interesting is putting it mildly and with the sweet woman beside him what lehigh man could be kept away the tea dance will last until seven o'clock with polk's club holds big dinner running more than six miles in a steady downpour over slip pery and muddy roads the brown and white harriers lost to the hill and dale experts of dickinson college on saturday afternoon by a lone point the score being 27 to 28 the race was staged over the bonny brook course of the red and white harriers starting and fin ishing on the main street of car lisle captain bayley the star per former for the red and white led the pack of runners from the very start and gradually in creased his lead as the race progressed although aitken of lehigh kept close at his heels for a good part of the race the winner's time was 36.25 which is very fast considering the treacherous footing over most of the route . about half of the course loy over hard-surfaced roads and the other half over back-country roads which had been turned into a bog in some places by the steady rain this was the first official race for both chickering and aitken ol the brown and white and if this initial performance may be taken as a criterion great things can be forcasted for them in the future last year lehigh defeated the dickinson over the former's course but this year the latter were strengthened by the addi tion of pennell a transfer from yale who finished third in the race con on page 4 col 5 dickinson was permitted to enter ten men in the race for many prominent speakers at candidates was answered this afternoon by almost 100 fresh men and 30 varsity candidates who will assist coach sheridan in breaking in the yearlings to the mysteries of the mat game many of the frosh candidates looked good in the opening ses sion while many varsity candi dates are busy on the gridiron at present there was several prominent contenders in the list that reported captain ralph best intercollegiate champion in the 125-pound division led the list of varsity men and next in line was dick lewis who was runner-up of the 135-pound class last year in the championship battle in the yale gym while even the captain must fight for his position competi tion should be keenest in the 145 pound 175 pound and heavy weight berths made vacant by the graduation of washburn ted burke and max levitz respectively jimmy reed the varsity 115 pound repre sentative who finished in third place in the championship mat ches is keeping in condition on the soccer squad hank wil liamson the varsity middle weight is a candidate for an end position on the football team but barring injury should keep the position he clinched last year despite the fact that competition sthis division will be keener were adjusted to the unaccus tomed corners on their heads mr mack's invention ridden by the unlucky thirteen began to show its repugnance to the well known number when it came to easton we decided that the air in easton was bad for any respectable piece of machinery when the bus began to sneeze and spit all got out and re lieved the pangs of hunger while the custodian of the ve hicle put in a new spark plug a new start was made and we were soon on the roaring high way away from easton's bad influences con on page 2 col 5 all traffic seemed to have one destination new bruns wick limousines touring cars and every conceivable kind of car was pressed into service as organization dinner to be held in bethlehem on friday students warning good speakers every wednesday evening for the next few months will find drown hall in the hands of the producers of lehigh's riotous musical comedies the incompar able mustard and cheese club engaged in the process of devel oping a chorus equal and better than those of former years all men now out for the chor us are being given the pointers to be used to their advantage later on if they should become aspirants for the cast this should be a point of interest to those who are not interested in the chorus but are looking for ward to winning leads in the show since the dancing learned during these rehearsals is a pre requisite to the leads with ned wayburn as coach there is being opportunity offer ed not to be excelled in many cases the real teaching to be given by him should prove in valuable to those who have any dramatic tendencies the cast and chorus will be picked by mr wayburn a few days after he arrives mustard and cheese aspirants have never before shown such enthusiasm to see eighty-five men strutting their stuff is a sign that competition will sure ly be keen every wednesday evening instruction in the light fantastic is being given by jimmy morris instructor of the chorus simple dancing steps are being taught to the chorus and the aptitude with which the men are learning them is sur prising the only unfortunate thing about the show in past years was the failure to produce the show in more than one city out side of bethlehem this year an attempt will be made to bring the show further into the lime light by producing in a few cities outside of bethlehem and perhaps end up by a presenta tion in new york if there is anyone in college who could aid the publicity and production de partment in this respect he should call up jimmy morris at the phi gamma delta house the new york lehii as the members of the new york le high club call themselves held a dinner and meeting october 23 on the eye of the rutgers game at machinery club in new york city a large number of alumni turned out for the affair which was the first to be held this sea son many new members were noticed at the meeting consist ing mainly of recent graduates who have settled in or about new york old friends and new acquaintances spent a very enjoyable evening many of those present expressed their intention of attending the le high-rutgers football game the next day plans were made and discussed about the lafayette game and every man present expects to be on hand november 21 for the big game the new york alumni will probably come in a body so plans for ob taining tickets for all those wishing to attend were made after an excellent splendid outing of several hours on a comfor table commodious steamer for the members and families on october 31 all students are warned that their applications for lafayette tickets must be in the hands of the graduate manager by mon day november 2 no applica tions will be considered after that date a short freshman meeting was held last friday evening at drown hall for the purpose of electing a freshman cabinet the meeting was opened by j e blood president-elect who ex plained the manner of electing the cabinet the freshman cabinet is com posed of 15 members 6 of whom are the class officers the other 9 being elected by the class these 9 are nominated by the class as whole the fraternity men then may vote for 4 and the non-fra ternity men may vote for 3 no progress was made due to the small number present it is urged that there be a large number present for these impor tant elections the time and place of which will be posted on the bulletin boards about the cam pus the plans for the organization of a lehigh valley section of the american institute of min ing and metallurgical engin eers have been completed by the organization committee of that body con on page 3 col 4 the committee announces that they have secured the promise the lehigh soccer team re mained in the running in the pennsylvania state league composed of swarthnflpre hav erford perm lafayette and lehigh teams by defeating hav erford junior varsity 2 to 1 on saturday the game was play ed in a drizzle of rain and only the grass on the field saved the players from becoming covered with mud during the first quarter the ball was almost continually in front of lehigh's goal haver ford had their chance but luck seemed to be against them and they failed to score their play ing was noticeably better than that of lehigh during this quar ter in the second quarter le high drove the ball into haver ford territory a number of times and succeeded in scoring when beck's kick bounced off a hav erford man and into the net during the third quarter le high's playing improved altho neither side scored both teams played well in the fourth quar ter haverford making their first score when two of their men and the aptitude with which the men are learning them is sur prising the only unfortunate thing about the show in past years was the failure to produce the show in more than one city out side of bethlehem this year an attempt will be made to bring the show further into the lime light by producing in a few cities outside of bethlehem and perhaps end up by a presenta tion in new york if there is anyone in college who could aid the publicity and production de partment in this respect he should call up jimmy morris at the phi gamma delta house the new york lehii as the members of the new york le high club call themselves held a dinner and meeting october 23 on the eye of the rutgers game at machinery club in new york city a large number of alumni turned out for the affair which was the first to be held this sea son many new members were noticed at the meeting consist ing mainly of recent graduates who have settled in or about new york old friends and new acquaintances spent a very enjoyable evening many of those present expressed their intention of attending the le high-rutgers football game the next day plans were made and discussed about the lafayette game and every man present expects to be on hand november 21 for the big game the new york alumni will probably come in a body so plans for ob taining tickets for all those wishing to attend were made after an excellent lehigh har ry rockafeller graduate manag er of athletics rutgers it was announced that the members had been invited by the city of new york to take a trip around new york by boat with out charge a splendid outing of several hours on a comfor table commodious steamer for the members and families on october 31 all students are warned that their applications for lafayette tickets must be in the hands of the graduate manager by mon day november 2 no applica tions will be considered after that date a short freshman meeting was held last friday evening at drown hall for the purpose of electing a freshman cabinet the meeting was opened by j e blood president-elect who ex plained the manner of electing the cabinet the freshman cabinet is com posed of 15 members 6 of whom are the class officers the other 9 being elected by the class these 9 are nominated by the class as whole the fraternity men then may vote for 4 and the non-fra ternity men may vote for 3 no progress was made due to the small number present it is urged that there be a large number present for these impor tant elections the time and place of which will be posted on the bulletin boards about the cam pus the plans for the organization of a lehigh valley section of the american institute of min ing and metallurgical engin eers have been completed by the organization committee of that body con on page 3 col 4 the committee announces that they have secured the promise the lehigh soccer team re mained in the running in the pennsylvania state league composed of swarthnflpre hav erford perm lafayette and lehigh teams by defeating hav erford junior varsity 2 to 1 on saturday the game was play ed in a drizzle of rain and only the grass on the field saved the players from becoming covered with mud during the first quarter the ball was almost continually in front of lehigh's goal haver ford had their chance but luck seemed to be against them and they failed to score their play ing was noticeably better than that of lehigh during this quar ter in the second quarter le high drove the ball into haver ford territory a number of times and succeeded in scoring when beck's kick bounced off a hav erford man and into the net during the third quarter le high's playing improved altho neither side scored both teams played well in the fourth quar ter haverford making their first score when two of their men worked the ball into a posi tion giving them an open field before lehigh's goal a little later nevins scored the winning point for lehigh the game was rather slow on account of the wet weather the players were not able to kick the ball with accuracy and as a result it went out of bounds frequently lehigh did not seem to have the fight they showed last week for it appeared that they could have about ten minutes to the three the two teams came on the field and went thru the necessary preliminaries potter acting captain of the lehigh eleven won the toss and elected to de fend the west goal as there was a slight wind blowing from that direction next week the frosh meet the muhlenberg freshmen at tay lor field at 12 30 the cardin al and gray yearlings have made a good showing so far and a hard-fought battle is anticipat ed in spite of the fact that their best men are on the varsity squad they have had a fairly successful season last satur day they defeated perkiomen by a 2-0 score moreover they se cured a much greater moral vic tory securing ten first downs to their opponent's one and out playing them in all departments of the game the lineup for the wyoming game follows :
