the annual interclass handicap track and field meet will be held this year on may 11 anyone in college is eligible to the various contests and every one is urged to come out and help in making this meet a success about three weeks still remain before the contest it is desired that all men who intend to take part in this meet report to dr davis as soon as possible and begin tiaining class numerals will be awarded tc men winning first and second places and as an additonal prize chas e drumbor of south bethle hem will give a first grade varsity jersey to the winner of the two mile race one of the special fea tures will be the inter-class relay race the starvation eating club hitherto well known for the num ber and the quality of its athletes is at present running two training tables about twenty of its mem bers are now in regular training h l pentz 05 will captain this manager w s barley 05 will gladly accommodate any first class teams desiring games rp he first meetinp of the tennis club was held in saucon hall last week with hodges 04 presiding ever the large and enthusiastic as semblage the election of officers for the present season resulted in the following president yon bor ries oc ; vice president kautz 05 ; secretary-treasurer enke 05 the president stated that chal lenges had been received from two colleges and if sufficient interest was taken in the sport and enough good men turend out to warrant the action teams would be sent out at the expense of the club for the benefit of the new men it is staed that any one may join the club with an initiation fee of one dollar and dues of one dollar a year no student will be allowed on the courts before the payment of dues the courts will be in order to play en in a week and all interested in the sport are urged to join and make the club a success it is hoped that enough men will join to make it possible to cut back the bank and increase the length of the courts this season all wishing to join may do so by application to enke 05 campus notes tau beta pi on saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock lehigh will play stevens in lacrosse this is the first game of the championship series the others being with johns hopkins and swarthmore the base ball team will go to lewisburg on saturday where they will play bucknell university on friday at 5.15 p m there will be a game of lacrosse between the freshmen and the scrub professor franklin will lecture on preparatory physics before the new jersey state high school teachers association at newark n j on saturday y m c a the rev a d thaeler pastor of the moravian church of beth ! hem will address the meeting of the y m c a on sunday even ing at 6.30 base ball game on saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock the junior mechanical sec tion will play the junior c e.s in base ball both teams have been practicing hard ; so that a very in teresting and intensely exciting game may be expected an important meeting of the senior class was held on wednes day april 20th president baily called the meeting to order promptly at 12 o'clock the class day committee was first elected consisting of dunbar hutchinson macfarlane mussina and sinn morgan was elected to both the ivy and tablet ora tions and johnson to give the presentation oration talley was elected class poet and hartzog prophet graduation expenses were discussed and the class dues definitely settled a motion was passed to the ef fect that president baily appoint a commitee of five seniors to take charge of all college parades and to see that the athltic teams re ceive a proper and enthusiastic sup port from the student body hutchinson mack and edmonds were appointed on a committee to interview the faculty and to inves gate means of starting a new honor system this is a question which has been much discussed by the senior class of late the idea is not to renew the old honor sys tem but to start a new one and if the college as a whole would give this matter as much consideration as have a large number of the sen iors something definite could be done about it haves 05 to captain track team lehigh will run in a class with swarthmore lafayette new york university and rutgers c d hayes was recently elected rcting captain of the track team in leu of m h klar who was com pelled to discontinue his work on the field on account of illness a strong team consisting of hayes 05 crowther 06 haslam 06 and van duyne 06 will represent le high at he relay races at he uni versity of pennsylvania on satur day april 23 about fifty members of the freshman class are trying for teams this spring ; eighteen are can didates for the base ball team eleven for the lacross team and twenty-three the track team this b a good percentage of the class but it might easily and profitably be increased initiation and banquet the initiation and banquet of tail beta pi was held last wednesday evening at the banquet which was held at he eagle hotel toasts were responded to as follows : following is a list of toasts : toastmastef prof estey welcome to new members o j haller history of tau beta pi prof r c h heck new sens&tions.c e clewell 05 dissipation prof w s franklin folio-wing is the list of initiates shaffer rich blume johnson berg murray smith jones kirk seipt clewell and cloke freshman banquet the class of 1907 will hold their first annual banquet at the wyan dotte on the evning of friday april 29 tickets may be obtained from the committee : wilson chairman ; parkhurst d brown pattison s g smith duncan balston and kiefer lacrosse harvard 4 — lehigh 4 with the thermometer at freezing point and a bitter wind from the west a small number of lacrosse enthusiasts gathered on lehigh field last wednesday with the ex pectaiton of seeing an exhibition equal in quality to that of the sat urday previous in this they were sadly disappoitned most however were charitable enough to ascribe the ragged work of the home team 1o the cold weather at the same time realizing that harvard played well under the same conditions during the first half and part of the second the harvard men carried cff the honors but towards the last the lehigh attack found them selves and took a decided brace in so much that they played all around the opposing defence actually run ning them off their feet and tying the score the harvard attack de serves credit for advancing the ball straight down the center of the field at all times and the defense for rather good head work the home team earned small praise as a whole the defense showing up better than the attack with the exception of the last few minutes of play merri man played the best game on the field and kept the ball in the op ponents territory most of the sec ond half carlock did well for thi defence harvard started with a rush and lehigh looked on until their oppon ents had made the first score in six minutes of play the home team then braced and soon made their cnly score of the half the visit ing defence kept the ball in lehigh territory and the atack made three more goals ending the half har vard 4 lehigh i the second half started as the first but merriman soon began his fsst work the attack braced at the same time and began to play fast curing the harvard defence be lrind and running up three goals be fore the whistle blew making the final score harvard 4 lehigh 4 it was proposed to pla off the tie but as the game was not in the championship series and no agree r^.,f b ad been made to play under mtercollegiate rules harvard de clined the pronosition the line-up lehigh position harvard carlock goal wead baily point phillips edmonds c point lahman kirk 1 defence hanavan merriman ■->.. defence kibbey mcfarlane 3 defence rice dc schweiuitz centre adams wrightson 3 attack bennett estes 2 attack outerbrldge ladders 1 attack blaxter harrower out home goddard farabaugh in home smith referee lattig lehigh time 25 minutes and 20 minutes umpires groves harvard olpp lehigh timekeepers bollard and clauder goals harvard blaxter 1 smith 3 ;
