the following rules and regula tions adopted by the faculty will go into effect at the beginning of the college year 1904 1905 grades and gro'upes a includes those who ' have passed with hierh merit b includes those who have passed with high merit c includes those who have passed fairly well d includes those who have passed e includes those who have failed to pass but are entitled to a re-ex amination x includes those who have failed io pass and are required to repeat the subject rule 1 a student will not be allowed to go on with any work in the university a if at the beginning of his third year he has any freshman conditions b if at the beginning of his fourth year he has any sophomore conditions c ) if at the beginning of his tions college meeting athletic carnival those who journeyed to phila delphia last saturday in order to witness the athletic carnival given by the u of p on franklin field ad the satisfaction of seeing a le high team entered in the middle states university class for the jrst time since 1902 although in a class of which all matched our hopes of welcoming some additions to our trophy room were not realized van duyne who ran the first lap for lehigh did not fulfil the ex pectations of his admirers finishing last in his heat hal he done that of which he is capable lehigh would have stood an excellent chance of winning the event the running of crowthers the second member of the team was in ded very creditable fie succeed ed in decreasing the gap which van dyne had left and on the last turn pulled up into third place but with rising hopes came a second disappointment that of the performance of captain flayes he seemed to be way off form and al though he held third position throughout the lap lost consider able distance for the brown and white haslam the last man to finish ran the best of the four he gained iconsidjerjably ion the leaders but aas unable to overcome the large handicap under which lehigh was struggling new york university captured first place with rutgers a close second and lehigh third lafay ette also ran no remorse need be felt over the outcome of the event but rathe 1 should we feel elated over the fact that our college was once more represented at what was undoubt edly the biggest congregation of athletes ever seen in this country sophomore cotillion the last meeting of the sopho mjcfre cotillion before the dance was held last sunday evening all arrangements were completed and • ; ' ird from all the commit tees it was decided to 1 enclose the large porch on the side of the eagle hotel in canvass and to use it as a promenade the decorations will be much more elaborate than any thing ever attempted in that line before music will be furnished by gro man's full orchestra the pro grammes will be a unique feature k they will be in the form of a pig skin card case base ball the playing of powell was the feature of the game bucknell 8 — lehigh 4 with the game well in hand and with good chances of landing a victory lehigh lost in the seventh inning lehigh started the game in good shape by getting two runs in the first this score was raised one point in the second then bucknell tied the score in their half of the second lehigh got her last run in the third making the score 4-3 in her favor no more runs were made until the lewisburg boys with two men out started to land on mccleary in the fatal seventh they pounded out five clean hits for a total of nine bases and brought in five runs in the one inning badgly was put in the box and the bucknell team was prevented from making more runs lehigh tried hard in the eighth and ninth to pull down this lead but although in the ninth inning they had men on second and third bases they were unable to score the trip was most unsaisfactor ily arranged the team arrived at lewisburg at 1.30 p m and left for bethlehem at 4.30 p m they were compelled toi get all their meals at lunch counters along the road the exhausted condition of the men resulting from the trip no doubt had much to do with loos ing the game the score bucknell lehigh earned runs bucknell 7 le high 1 two-base hits — smith portser deats three-base hits — blair portser weaver powell sacrifice hits — teufel deats badg lty powell bason struck out — by weaver 5 ; by mccleary 2 ; by badgley 1 bases on balls — off mccleary 2 left on bases — buck nell 9 lehigh 7 passed ball — teufel stolen bases — grinninger teufel smith cockhill 2 rowe a large college meeting was held in the assembly hall of the physi cal laboratory last friday morn ing a w zahniser manager of the mustard and cheese announced ibat the play would be given next saturday evening and advised all the men to get seats early and avoid the rush a motion was passed to engage the bethlehem band for the game and it was decided on account of the mustard and cheese perform ance in the evening to ho celebration of the victory immed iately after the game george baily then spoke about lacrosse and u;rged the men to come out and try to play the game r g johnson then spoke about the mustard and cheese perform ance fie said that the play would be different and better than any thing ever before presented at le high he also said that the mem bers of the cast and chorus had been working hard to give a good show and urged the men to turn out and support the undertaking w h s drinker of the board of trustees class of 71 and president drown met a committee of the pittsburg lehigh club at pittsburg last saturday afternoon and discussed the affairs of the university lehigh 7 — stevens 2 in one of the prettiest games of the season lehigh defeated steven saturday by a score of 7-2 it was an ideal day for the sport and this coupled with the fact that it was the first game of the champion ship series brought forth a large and enthusiastic crowd stevens opened the game with several clever passes and it seemed as if they would have every thing their own way it was not until they had almost scored that lehigh woke up merriman by good stick work carried the ball out of danger and passed to wrightson wrightson dodged his opponent and threw to estes who scored the first point of the game at this stage of the game le high's attack became very weak but in kirk and macfarlane stevens found a defense too strong and failed to score baily secured the ball from scrimmage and ran to center of field ;
