sophomore freshman picture the electrical engineers of the university elected on last friday the officers of their society for the present college year mr walcott being unanimously selected as their hero and president before the adjournment of the meeting pres walcott made an exceedingly inter esting address in which he re marked that this society had for many years been the leading one at our university that he felt confident it would lose none of its promi nence if the senior electrical engi neers would give to it the impetus that their with great emphasis ability is capable of giving and fur thermore notwithstanding the fact that the electrical engineers are looked upon as the leaders it is es sential that we take the initiative ( applause ) oct 1 6th was selected as the date of the next meeting when all sen ior junior and sophomore electri cal engineers should make an ap pearance buck hinckle 03 quite a large crowd gathered at the brighton last friday evening when the word went around that a number of freshmen had been cor ralled by the sophomores the back room was filled to overflowing by men from all the classes who came to see the freshmen do their stunts and have their picture taken among other specialties which the spectators witnessed was a repre sentation of the yale crew at prac tice and a dancing lesson these turns as well as the rest of the per formance reflected great credit upon the entire cast notice at the last meeting of the brown and white board it was decided to make a reduction of 50 cents in the subscription price of the brown and white to all those who paid up before no vember 1 igo2 so that for those who pay before that date the price will be 1 50 for the year the princeton game was played on saturday and proved a severe ] disappointment to lehigh hopes 1 especially was this so in the case of ] those who heard the report of the < first half while to lehigh sympa < thizers among the spectators the j game was a veritable nightmare < the game was a peculiar one 1 the first half was played through < out with the teams about evenly j matched both were weak on of 1 fensive play but one first down be ing made during this entire half 1 and that by princeton both teams : punted frequently of necessity the ] work of landefeld being on a level ; with that of dewett finally with • only four minutes to play lehigh fumbled and it was princton's ball on her opponents 20-yard line a long run and some aggressive line plunging brought the ball to le high's 3-yard line mcclave smashed through tackle for a gain of one yard hart tried the same tackle and the ball was placed with in two feet of the lehigh goal two feet to make in one down with just one minute of play s the faces of both teams were set hard and ex citement was at a white heat the signal was given somebody funm bled and a brown and white jersey nestled lovingly against the pigskin in a moment the ball was sailing out of clanger through an atmosphere heated by the rising curses of the princeton warriors and the teams had barely lined up when time was called and princeton had not scored so started the second half with lehigh hopes high princeton began at once the policy of punting at every opportunity lehigh follow ing her example after a few un successful attempts at line plunging the ball went back and forth sev eral times with the advantage us ually with princeton finally with the ball on lehigh s 20-yard line barnard made a high pass on an at tempt to punt and it was prince ton's ball two more plunges and the ball lay on the wrong side of the lehigh goal-line dewitt kicked an easy goal score prince ton 6 lehigh o two minutes after the next kick off landefeld placed a nice punt well out of the reach of the prince ton backs it rolled to princeton's 20-yard line where burke regained \ continued on third page training table the following men have been in structed to report at the wyandotte for training table beginning mon day morning : a farabuagh capt barnard waters geare dornin landefeld butler on friday morning the first col - 1 lege meeting of the year was held j to arouse enthusiasm for the foot ball season and to impress upon every one the urgent need of his support and active assistance the meeting was well attended but the speeches made showed conclusively to the students that more college spirit would have to be manifested if lehigh is to have a successful team glancy 03 presided and opened the meeting with a few brief re marks he said that it was well known lehigh had not shown the proper spirit for last two years and that the tim,e had now come to ef fect a change the senior class had ta*ken it upon itself to rectify this state of affairs and had called the present meeting which was to be the first of a series to arouse the fellows to a proper interest and ac tivity dr newton was next called on and spoke in substance as follows : personally i have found the lehigh men to be fine fellows but they are sadly lacking in true col lege spirit they are willing to work for the college provided it does not interfere with their per sonal convenience but when it comes to a real sacrifice there are only a few men who can be de pended upon i have met with many discouragements so far and unless the students will help me more than they have been doing it will be an absolute impossibility to turn out a strong team a large number of men have been out to practice it is true but the majority of them come so irregularly that it is impossible to do consistent work for nearly every day men must be put in the different positions anc the make-up of the teams is daily shifting this ought not to con tinue for the undergraduates have really the interest of the college at heart and by a little exertion can ex . hibit it in a practical way let : every man who can play foot ball ; come out regularly every day and - work consistently and it is the duty of all those who cannot play to - see that none of the candidates : misses a practice and by their influ ence compel the members of the 5 squad to keep in strict training in 1 this way and this way only can le continued on third page lehigh university south bethlehem pa monday october 6 1902 college meeting the brown and white calendar first meeting of the college year forum meeting announcement of first meeting lehigh defeated in second half vol x foot ball thursday oct 9 — at 10.30 a m founder's day address in chapel by hon james m beck at 2 p m founder's day sports on athletic field at 9 p m founder's day hop in gymnasium saturday oct 11 at 3p m foot ball rutgers vs lehigh on lehigh field at 8.30 p m y m c a re ception to new men in christmas hall bible study rally the young men's christian as sociation meeting sunday evening at 6.15 was devoted to the consid eration of bible study professor stewardson gave a short talk on bible study and courses for the year were presented by the bible study committee on tuesday evening oct 14 the forum will hold the first meet ing of the college year and the programme will be of special inter est the meeting will be in the nature of a smoker so that the social side will be well attended to as well as the more serious business ' the debate will be upon the subject resolved that the fifteenth amendment to the constitution of the united states has justified it self the affirmative will be up held by wolcott 03 and sisson 05 and the negative by gilmore 03 and bernstein 04 there will also be another feature of interest on the program which however will not be announced until at the meeting as it is to be somewhat of a surprise an artistic poster on the forum's bulletin board in pack er hall calls attention to the meet ing and every one members up perclassmen who are not members and freshmen are cordially invited to be present and assist to inaugu rate the new year successfully e e society meeting senior class meeting 1903 held a class meeting satur day at noon when nominations for senior officers were made resulting as follows : for president glancy frick vice president dyer smith deg ener secretary walker carrier treasurer wolcott felix a class meeting will be held on wednesday at noon when class of ficers will be elected and nomina tions for a class book committee made no 4
