feb 14 a successful and enthusiastic meeting the lehigh alumni club of philadelphia held their annual smoker last friday night in the club's rooms at 15 10 walnut street a large number of alumni were present not only the mem bers of the club but also many visiting alumni there were also several undergraduates who had gone down to philadelphia to at tend the smoker and who were amply repaid for the trip by the royal good time that was shown them throughout the evening tion of officers the meeting was ad journed and the smoker proper commenced shortly after quarter past eignt the meeting was called to order a letter from doctor drown ex pressing his sorrow at not being able to be present and extending his best wishes for a most successful smoker was read the recent death of mr robert p linderman one of lehigh's most honored and respected alumni and a trustee of the university was touched upon and the highest tribute was paid to his 1 memory then after an elec for this a most elaborate and en joyable program had been prepared and was ably carried out with consummate tact the committee in charge had prepared for the early appeasement of the inner man thus leaving his twin outer man in a most receptive mood speeches were now in order and many spoke among them were mr foering captain farrabaugh and coach okeson that their remarks were well received it is needless to say for they spoke of foot ball at le high both of last season and of the season to come after the speak ing came a performance by talent brought in for the occasion this kept things going hilariously until homing time came and the smoker broke up after some hearty le high songs and yells nativity services in the church of the the obsequies of robert packer linderman took place saturday afternoon the funeral was affect ing in its simplicity men and women from various walks in life paid their respects to the memory of the deceased the remains at tired in black reposed in a square casket covered with black broad cloth with the name of the de ceased engraved on a silver plate thereon the remains were viewed by only the immediate relatives and near friends of the deceased the features were as in peaceful sleep about the casket were a large num ber of beautiful floral tributes from relatives friends public bodies and corporations nearly three-score carriages car ried the relatives and friends to the church of the nativity where the servcies took place at 2.30 o'clock the spacious edifice was completely filled the episcopal burial ritual was used in the chancel were bishop bthelbert talbot rev dr gilbert h sterling rector of the church of the nativity rev dr f m bird and rev stewart u mit man curate of the church of the nativity after the solemn service in the church the large cortege followed the hearse to niskey hill ceme tery where in the family plot all that was mortal of robert packtr linderman was placed at rest the honorary pallbearers represented the board of directors and officers of the bethlehem iron company bethlehem steel company lehigh valley national bank jefferson coal company lehigh valley rail road company boards of trustees of lehigh university and st luke's hospital faculty and professors of lehigh university boroughs of fountain hill south bethlehem bethlehem and west bethlehem societies of lehigh university and sigma phi fraternity and repre sentatives of coal iron and manu facturing interests of the lehigh valley president drown and prof ringer represented lehigh rev langdon c stewardson chaplain of the university and pro fessor of philosophy has been elected president of hobart college at geneva n v but has not yet decided whether he will accept the position bishop talbot preached in the chapel on sunday morning chapel will be held next sunday morning as usual the picture of the basket ball team was taken on sunday at flick inger's f and m team won easily another decisive victory was placed to the credit of the basket ball team on saturday evening when they defeated the team represent ing franklin and marshall college by the score of 48 to 18 the first half was exciting although the re sult was never in doubt during the second half the visit ing team was winded and lehigh made 24 points to 5 by f and m some excellent passing was done by the lancaster team but they seemed unable to locate the basket when in posession of the ball their team was light but played a fast clean game lafay ette defeated the same team on thursday night by the score of 36 to 18 the visiting team was the first to score by horn throwing a goal from a foul as a result of some very fast playing goals were thrown in the following order farabaugh powell smartt smartt pfahler shaffer farabaugh fara baugh farabaugh fegler shaf fer pfahler horn fegler pfah ler shaffer and farabaugh score at the end of the first half frank lin and marshall 13 lehigh 22 klar took smartt's place at guard during the second half and goals were thrown in the
