literary work due on next saturday by next saturday all literary work for the epitome should be in the hands of the board every contributor is earnestly requested to hand in all his work by this time as it is highly desirable that all material should be received in ample time to examine and select from it with care this year the book is going to press earlier than it did last year and in consequence the copy will have to be on hand at least a month earlier than was necessary before we hope that this is the last time we will have to harp upon the same old tune of support from the students in the literary line es pecially the artistic work is even surpassing expectations and the board has not the least kick com ing in that respect we hope that the literary work will be equal to the artistic both as regards quality and quantity so far however we have been far from overwhelmed with literary articles and unless this week sees a large increase the lat ter portion of the 19,04 epitome will be in danger of being below the standard of previous books we trust however that the literary talent of the college has summoned its college spirit and will do its utmost to help out the college an nual we wish also to call to the at tention of the students that the gag box will be kept open until march 1 and up to that date gags will be most gladly received they are not being received in as large numbers as they should be and it is absolutely necessary for the suc cess of this part of the book that during the next three weeks the number of good gags be nearly doubled the board college notes fhe hon john d long for merly secretary of the navy has been chosen president of the board of overseers of harvard univer sity st deniol's library at hawarden erected as a national memorial to the late william e gladstone , and which cost 50,000 was opened by earl spencer october 1.4 the building stands on the brow of a hill commanding a view of the dee so greatly admired by mr glad stone it contains the statesman's valuable collection of books crowds of visitors attended the ceremonies which commenced with a service in the church conducted by rev stephen gladstone among the speakers was andrew carnegie gen alexander stewart webb has resigned the presidency of the college of the city of new york which he has held since i860 death of w.s.heckler occurred last friday at his home wilson s heckler 05 died at his home in lansdale on friday feb 6 he had not been well for two weeks and on saturday jan 31 suffered a severe attack of peri tonitis on saturday afternoon he went to his home in lansdale where he died the following friday heckler was a sophomore in the civil engineering course and was an active and popular student he played on his class base ball team in his freshman and sophomore years and ran on the class relay team in the founder's day games in october last spring he was a member of the base ball squad and made the southern trip with the team during the present basket ball season he played a fast game as forward on the sophomore bas ket ball team up to the time of his death he aws a member of the college y m c a the funeral will be held in lans dale on wednesday morning mr emery will represent the univer sity and a meeting of the sopho more class will be held tuesday at 12.30 p m to take action in the matter resolutions of y m c a whereas god in his almighty providence has seen fit to remove from our midst a fellow-member of the lehigh young men's christian association w t . s heckler and whereas on account of his cheerful disposition and earnestness of purpose we hereby lose a true friend and associate therefore be it resolved that we extend our deepest sympathies to the be reaved family in this period of their great loss of a dear son and brother entering upon a career of promising young manhood and be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family placed on the re cords of ' the association and be printed in the brown and white h s seipt n n merriman r g hodgkin committee lehigh home club at the recent annual meeting of the lehigh home club at its rooms on new street bethlehem the fol lowing officers were elected mr archibald johnston president messrs p h lambert and a g ran vice presidents ;
