team loses to dickinson in a close game hard luck alone was responsible for the defeat which lehigh suffered at the hands of dickinson oh last saturday both sides played prac tially an errorless game but the splended batting of carlin turned the tide of victory to the visstors both badgely and spencer were in fine form the former allowing but 4 hits while 5 safeties were scored against the latter dickinson prac tically clinched the game in the first inning wolfe the first man up drew a base on balls and stole second hertzler hit to left and also stole second carlin the next man up sent a clean drive to left which resulted in a home run lehigh then settled down to work and after this allowed only one more run for lehigh jones drew a base on balls and was ad vanced to second by eisenhart's sacrifice powell went out on a fly to second lewis sent a grounder to dively but as jones interfered was called out in the second holljes drew a base on balls but was easily caught in attempting to steal second davison sent a neat two bagger to left brush was out on fly to pitcher while snyder was hit with two men on basis badgely sent a grounder to third thus forcing davison for dick inson duncan spencer and wolfe were easy outs in the third jones attempted to bunt but was thrown out pitcher to first eisenhart reached first on ferguson's error and stole second powell and lewis however were easy outs for the visitors hertzler attempted to bunt but was easily caught at first carlin drove a long liner to left centre which netted him three bases and came home on dively's long fly to left simpson was an easy out on a fly to powell lehigh did not score until the seventh brush singled to left and stole second snyder and badgely were easy outs jones however sent a long two bagger to right and thus saved lehigh from a shut-out quite a surprise was created by the announcement recently of the marriage of mr j j cort of the graduating class to miss laura m brewer of south bethlehem the marriage ceremony was performed by the rev mr e w c breuck ner pastor of the reformed church at 235 east 190 th street new york city on june 10 1902 the matter has been kept secret during this past year while the groom has been finishing his col lege course here and the bride has been teaching in the south bethle hem schools the track team concluded their season's work on last wednesday with a very gratifying and decisive victory the usual enthusiasn aroused by keen competition in such events was markedly lacking after several of the numbers had been run off and was distinctly re placed by a spirit on the part of the audience to see records broken and a willingness on the part of several lehigh men not simply to win their events but to establish new records as well pentz won the pole vault and then raised the height 2 inches van duyne ran both the 220 yards dash and quarter mile in better time than has been made before on lehigh track klar won the mile in easy style and could have lowered his own record had it not been neccessary for him to make his own pace for the entire distance sumary : events 100 yards dash — first van duyne lehigh second mccand less lafayette third henderson lehigh time 10 2-5 seconds 120 yards hurdles — first bur key lehigh ;
