class of nexi year at lehigh university was held on tuesday with the fol lowing results president k hoffman ; vice president r freeman secre tary and treasurer e giles athletic representative r best historian o zurn sergeant-at arms j r yeager owing to a new ruling that the person elected must receive a majority of the votes cast a double election took place the first was held on friday may 15 from which the two highest were chosen and again voted on at the meeting on tuesday musical clubs end successful season lehigh track representatives will discard spikes after saturday at haverford fying financially and so cially conclude season most grati robert a harrier president of the sophomore class and man ager of basketball effective in his senior year was the reci pient of additional laurels when at a meeting of the editorial and business boards of the 1927 epitome last tuesday he was elected editor in chief of that publication by virtue of mr harrier's election the responsibility of editing and producing the 1927 epitome will be divided between himself and john p cox busi ness manager with the eight additional board members dur ing their bit in the various de partments of the publication the successful candidate was hard pressed by mr barba in fact the men were deadlocked in the ballots taken at the meet ing being forced to call upon the two alternates mr littell and mr feurebach to break the tie heavy laden program to feature alumni week activities at the last meeting of the board of control managers in in the sprnig sports for next year were elected also the can didates for assistant manager who were voted upon today were ratified shipley was elected manager of baseball for the season of 1926 p g shaheen and r l trainer were elected managers of tennis and track respesctive ly heretofore the manager of track assumed charge of the cross country team but as the managerial activities would oc cupy too much time it was de cided to have separate managers for these two spo/ts r e freeman was chosen to manage the cross country team next fall walter gisriel 27 who has been a star for two seasons in the discus throw on the brown and white track team is going to the national collegiate a a to compete in this event gisriel won the middle atlantic states championship last year and this season placed fifth in the perm relays against the cream of the country he has shown further improvement and is expected to shine in this competition june 5-9 will see campus a beehive of activity tennis team downs rutgers netters calculus cremation again the harrisburg-lehigh club held its last meeting of this school term wednesday eve ning when it met in drown hall to elect officers for the next year in addition to choosing officers much time was given to outlining the activities which the club should undertake dur ing the summer and next school year charles f keller a member of the class of 26 was elected president to succeed h l siegmund mr keller has serv ed as vice-president of the club since march when it was organ ized charles k krause 28 was elected vice-president and robert doehne also 28 was chosen as secretary-treasurer the retiring and might follow in its effort to interest more young men of harrisburg in lehigh univer sity he appointed a commit tee including keller delmotte doehne bissinger and kelly to arrange for a luncheon to be frosh tossers to face mercersburg home racqueteers easily outclass scarlet courtmen yearlings will encounter strong opposition from blue and white all roads will lead to taylor stadium tomorrow afternoon when the ball tossers of lafay ette meet those representing lehigh in their opponent's baili wick the climax for both nines will be history twenty-four hours hence for the game will decide the mythical champion ship between the two rivals each school has annexed one game to their credit lehigh capturing theirs last saturday when they larropped the pill with such a deadly accuracy that they amassed eight runs af ter two men had died in the lucky seventh the maroon fence busters scored first blood two weeks ago when they won the initial game due chiefly to three four base clouts the brown and white play ers have experienced a rather poor season unfortunate and unexpected injuries have wreak ed havoc among the varsity men however their past rec ord will be forgotten if they send finished what may be termed the most successful sea son ever experienced by a le high organization the results gained both popularly and fin ancially being most gratifying to all those who have taken an interest in the club's doings while the season this year was much longer than in past years the success of the club was not in the least bit hindered much credit being due to the director a i mchose and the manag er w b leavens both were instrumental in holding the in terest of the members and it may be said that the enthusiasm received throughout the entire season was one of the main fac tors in the success obtained starting this most busy sea son with a trip to northern new jersey the clubs rendered a concert at maplewood east orange and over the radio sta tion wor from newark popularity gained the clubs during this trip especially by the broadcast over wor may be well estimated by the favorable reports that have been received the next concert of the clubs was on april 18th when they appeared before a capacity house at catasauqua this.con cert served as a preliminary to the home concert which will be remembered went over with a bang shortly after the home concert the organization jour neyed to allentown where they put in their first appearance in a number of years and while the house was not packed to ca pacity the success of the con cert was not in the least mar red sunday the last two concerts were staged one in the after noon and the other in the eve ning before a packed house at central park the status of the clubs now is the best ever they being in the best position ever for carrying on the wonderful work that has been going on for the past two years next season will find an even better aggregation than that which presented itself this year and if the services of a i mchose are still available the success of the organization will be assured lehigh batsmen pitted their strength and skill against vil lanova wednesday in a hard fought battle and came up short in the scoring with a 7-6 defeat chalked against their record all scoring was done on both sides in the first three innings no runs being made after the first half of the third the start cox turned such good time in the 880 at the n y u meet last saturday that coach kan aly has decided to enter him in this event at haverford and be lieves that he has all the chanc es in the world to come thru with a win one of the oldest records of the annual middle atlantic states track meet is the discus throw ten years ago tallman of rutgers made a toss of 130 feet 5 inches that has not been surpassed this year it looks as if this record was about to go for two men who will participate in this meet have beaten this record to date baker of swarthmore heaved the disc over 132 feet in a dual meet with delaware several weeks ago and gisriel of lehigh last year's winner of this event at those champion ships did 131 feet at the n y u dual meet last saturday still another possibility is ray thomas record holder at haverford he registered 12 feet in the haverford-rutgers meet and will be throwing on his home grounds in the middle states meet the men who will represent lehigh in the championships are 440 croll cox 880 cox siegmund 1 mile barba siegmund 2 mile askin 120 h h and 220 l h smith shot put gisriel yeager discus gisriel yeager javelin yeager pole valut meyers high jump mcfadden in the elections held on wed nesday aggie meyers the brown and white star pole vaul ter was 1 chosen to lead the cin der artists for the next year lehigh's tennis team defeated the four man squad representing rutgers last wednesday after noon when it won five of the six matches played the brown and white players were far su perior to the visitors who man aged to win only two of the thirteen sets in each of the four singles matches the rutgers men were hopelessly outclassed they fail e dto win any of the sets in fact did not win more than three games in any one set however in the doubles rutgers display ed a combination which proved too strong for liversidge and doty although unable to defeat the brown and white defenders without going to extra games in the third set the defeat handed to the scarlet delegation was not un expected because that team has had only a mediocre season this year the army beat them ear lier in the season by a score oi five to two and lehigh
