to jewell who was stand ing immediately in front of the cage the ball was sent past bailey for a goal back and forth the ball was worked after the second face off the lehigh boys frequently shooting rr goal they were un successful in their attempts for lindsay was on the alert in each instance at last after eight min utes of exciting play sewell passed from the side to hardy who scored the crescents second goal in a scramble just in front of lehigh's goal curry poked the ball into the cage after three minutes of play lehigh at this point made another gallant effort to pierce the crescent's defence and in one in stance lattig by cleverly evading two plavci-s made a splendid shot for goal but the ball was stopped by lindsay finally symington sent the sphere from the side high in the air but hardy who jumped for it managed to obtain it and with al most the same motion of the hands shot a goal in the remaining time of the first half the crescents made two goal a dcci led attendance of 150,000 lafayette 5 lehigh 2 in the first game of the series with lehigh's heriditary rivals the base ball team continued the good work of the last two games and gave lafayette a hard run for the victory as indicated by the score the game was quite close and no one could safely prophesy the out come until the last man had been re tired lafayette's playing was much steadier than lehigh's and no er rors were credited to her account but notwithstanding this lehigh played by no means a poor game and by good head work pulled themselves out of several bad holes farabaugh merits high praise for the steady game he pitched and the way in which he as a rule kept his opponent's hits scattered apart from brown's home run no lafay ette player made more than a bas hit the brown and white did much better work in batting than hereto for and touched up johnston lafay ette's star pitcher for nine hits an equal number being made by lafay ette off farabaugh although the team showed much improvement over most of the previous games yet the same fatal fault of making errors at critical points was the cause of the defeat the batting was as good as lafayette's and in fact lafayette had but two earned runs the same as lehigh if only the men can free themselves from this fault the prospect for victory in the remaining two games of the series is far from dark undoubt edly this game was much mo-re closely contested than the first la fayette game last year lafayette started scoring in the first inning currier the first man up was given his base on balls stetzer sacrificed putting currier on second irwin flied out ernest hit to center but brush muffed and currier scored the next man was easily retired for lehigh reese hit safely eis enhart sacrificed lilley was thrown out at first and de schweinitz was hit by pitched ball but with two men on bases brush could hit but a slow grounder to second and the side was retired in the c econd inning brown put the ball over the left field fence for a home run no men were on bases and the next three batters continued on third page quarter mile record equalled in a will contested field and track meet at haverford pa le high was defeated by haverford college the score being sixty-two to forty-six the time made by our team in all the track events was much faster than in the n y u meet in many events haverford managed to win out by a very small margin in the ioo yds dash frick lost first place by only three inches and in the 220 yds dash he finished first in splendid style cutting one second off rris time in the n y u meet in the mile and half mile klar had a very hard proposition to face in bailsman of haverford and was beaten by only a few feet in both events the time made by klar was the best he had ever done browne 1 showed up stronger in the quarter than at any prev ious time this season equalling the lehigh record for that dis tance pentz's work was not as good as a week ago he fell off considerably in his broad jump and pole vault although he won the shot put he is capable of far bet ter work but had an off clay tak ing everything into consideration the defeat was not as bad as the score seems to and cheese a meeting of the mustard and cheese arpociation was held on sunday at the phi gamma delta house where a very neat pin con sisting of a characteristic gold play er's mark bearing the letters m c l u was adopted as the badge of the association this pin will be given to all who took part in this year's performance including the members of the fern seminary chorus hereafter members of the
