there will be an important meet ing of the class of 1902 in saucon hall on thursday at 12.30 p.m to elect officers for the ensuing year 1901 epitome important meeting of the 1901 epitome board at the phi delta theta house on tuesday evening at 7 o'clock 0 c 4 . forum meeting the first regular meeting of the forum will be held in saucon hall wednesday evening at 7 o'clock lectures on economics to seniors ist term labor in its relation to law history of the law of labor the labor contract statutes regulating the employ ment contract political protection and legal privileges of laborers state regulations of factories mines etc trades unions strikes and boycotts " government by injunction remedies by arbitration these lectures are given on mon day's at 10.30 and on wednesday's at 9.30 a m in lower saucon hall and are open to all members of the senior class w paul starkey m e 1900 electrial engineer at the central high school/philadelphia attended the bucknell-lehigh game on sat urday baugh brought the ball to buck nell's 3-yard line but again at the critical point a fumble occurred and the ball went over bucknell kicked out of danger whitehead muffed and sweet fell on the ball strong gains brought the oval almost to the middle of the field and time was called with the ball in lehigh's possession in the second half dow went in at quarter and the effect of his su perior work was immediately seen lehigh kicked to bucknell's 40 yard line where after two plays the ball was juggled and peeple's fell on ' it fine work by lehigh's backs advanced the ball twenty yards but ' bucknell held for downs and kicked to dow who was dropped in his tracks a kick by mccormick was blocked and the ball rolled back to lehigh's 20-yard line where mccormick managed to regain pos session of it lehigh again punted and bucknell after a run of fifteen . yards fumbled and dornin fell on the ball mccormick kicked to the center of the field bucknell tried without result their guards-back play and the ball went to lehigh on downs five-yard gains by farabaugh around the end and by dow on double-pass plays carried the ball some fifteen yards and here farabaugh cleared bucknell's left end for a gain of a good thirty-five yards from which position mccor mick was pushed over for a touch down a nerve-straining goal was kicked by gearhart and the score was tied lehigh 6 bucknell 6 bucknell kicked to mccormick who brought the ball back to his 45 yard line and then without a break or without a fumble dow and farabaugh rushed the ball straight down the field for a touch-down which was scored just as time was called gearhart kicked goal sceor lehigh 12 bucknell 6 the line-up : bucknell positions lehigh doolin left end..gearhart(capt rowe left tackle peeples sanlor left guard beaghen sweet centre burrows gills right guard bray grey right tackle shonk freundenb'rg'r..right end dornin pritchard quarter back j whit'h'ad ( dow barrett left half-back flanagan staunton } l l1l 1 , i , n „ . , capt i ••• n g nt " alf -' ac k"farabaugh catterall full-back . . mccormick referee barclay umpire davis linesmen fuller lehigh ; foot ball lehigh vs rutgers on lehigh field sunday oct 21 at 9.30 a m — bible study class in christmas hall at 6.15 p m meeting of christian association in 1 christmas hall 1902 class meeting freshmen reception the reception tendered the freshmen class by the members of thelehigh university christian as sociation on saturday evening was a prounced success despite the incle ment condition of the weather the reception was held in the commod ious rooms of the christian asso ciation in christmas hall and about fifty of the incoming students were in attendance after a few words of welcome by the president of the association the entertaiment was given over to several cordial ad dresses and informal talks prof franklin told several amusing stor ies and prof stewardson spoke in a very pleasing manner dr rich ards gave the men some good wholesome advice messrs heck and bronson also spoke words of encouragement and advice to the new men refreshments were served and the entertainment broke up amidst a chorus of lehigh yells and songs college orchestra the first practice of the orches tra which has been started up un der the leadership of golian 02 was held at the phi gamma delta house on wednesday evening not as many men were on hand as were expected but those who were pres ent started right in to work on sev eral familiar pieces it is to be hoped that at the next practice more men will turn out there are certainly more men in college who play some instrument and no mat ter whether they read notes well or not they should come out and do what they can to make the orches tra a success it is a thing that will be appreciated by the entire college if every musician will help to make it an organization worthy of lehigh's past record a new branch of work has been started at yale known as the de partment for self help it is under the supervision of one of the pro fessors who has regular office hours during which he will see any students who desire informa tion as to how they may find ways of self support while in college the new grand stand at amherst has been completed at a cost of about 11,000 no 6
