glee club meeting foot ball a new full-back puts in appearance the foot ball squad has had a valuable addition this week in per sons ; who will try for the position of full-back persons came here from north carolina to enter the junior class and has shown up quite well in his playing so far he bucks well tackles cleanly and is a kicker of no mean value while his punts are on an average much shorter than mccormick's persons handles the ball better and gets his kicks off several seconds sooner than the varsity man in order to keep his position mccormick will have to put up a better article at foot ball than he has done here tofore the practice on monday was necessarily light but on tues day and wednesday a strong scrub and cool bracing weather afforded the students present some very in teresting practice games baily 04 had his first trial at half back on the varsity on tuesday and showed up to very good advantage and particularly in his skill in find ing openings several new plays were taught the men by coach okeson and in the subsequent game with the scrub proved to be good gainers on wednesday fuller and bar nard who have been laid up for some time appeared on the field and indulged in some light signal practice quite a fierce competition for the positions of tackles is looked for between shonk peepels and barnard the game saturday with rutgers will be a good test of the work of the team rutgers is quite strong this year having beaten haverford on last saturday 1 1-0 senior election on wednesday october 17 the sophomores won the first game of the cup series beating the seniors 9-5 the game in detail is given below : first inning — 1903 reese got a base on balls and jones went out on a fly to catcher reese was caught trying to steal second lewis got a base on balls and stole second but de schweinitz went out on a fly to pitcher 109 1 flory hit to reese and was caught at first taylor went out at first on a hit to eisenhart and mcgonigle struck out second inning — 1903 chamber lain struck out mccleary went out on a fly to right field eisenhart singled over second and stole sec ond and stull was out at first on a hit to cortright 1 90 1 lattig went in at left de schweinitz taking chamberlain's place at center whitridge got safe on a fumble by reese and stole second harleman struck out and cortright went out on a foul to jones whitridge stole third and cassin struck out third inning — 1903 bruner hit to harleman and was caught at first reese hit to taylor got safe on his wild throw and jones hit a fly to cassin reese being caught at second 1 90 1 symington hit to jones and was thrown out harrar got safe on a scratch hit but went out at second while trying to steal and flory was caught at first on mc cleary's throw fourth inning — 1903 lewis first on whitridge's error stull knocked a fly to cortright and bruner was out on a fly to shortstop eisenhart stole second and reese knocked a two-bagger scoring fisenhart jones beat taylor's throw to first and reese scored but jones was out at sec ond on an attempt to steal the first regular meeting of the glee club was held on sunday at 2.30 p m for a very disagree able afternoon a large number of candidates were present and all seemed ready to give their best ef forts to making this year's glee club an unusual success plans for the year were discussed and the organization of the club effected during the week mr wolle has been trying the voices of the candi dates by appointment next sun day at the usual time 2.30 the sec ond regular rehearsal will be held men from all classes should do their duty by coming to these meetings since the club is surely going on a trip this year the pride of every man in college should compell him to come out and make this club the best lehigh has known in years there are still a few positions open on the mandolin club any one having any talent in that direc tion will report at the delta up silon house sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m the 1901 election was held in the large drawing-room in packer hall at 12.30 on wednesday and re sulted as follows : president — wilson vice president — wilkinson secretary — cassin ehlers tie treasurer — menough historian — nolan athletic representative — gird ler buch was ineligible for foot ball captain not having paid his class dues and anderson withdrew so it was decided to let the foot ball team choose their own captain 1 90 1 harleman drew a base on balls and cortright singled past reese sending harleman to third cassin was out on a fly to lattig but scored harleman and cort right went to
