the first game of the series with lafayette will be played on satur day afternoon at 3 o'clock on le high field it is of the utmost im portance that every man in college come out to the practices this week in order to rehearse the songs and practice yells the final game of the class cup series in base ball will be played on wednesday afternoon at 2.30 lafayette game great preparation have been made for handling the people at the lafayette-lehigh game on satur day next the new side line bleachers on the north side of the field have been so arranged that all the seats will be reserved as will those in the grand stand tickets for these reserved seats will be put on sale tuesday morning at huff's music store bethlehem and jacoby's drug store south bethle hem these tickets will be sold for one dollar and include admis sion to lehigh field and reserved seat holders of membership tickets desiring reserved seats can secure them only upon application to harleman 01 on tuesday wednesday and thursday the emmet foot ball team of south bethlehem defeated the eas tern high school on lehigh field on saturday by a score of 5 to o saucon hall was the scene of an enthusastic mass meeting on fri day morning at 11.30 wilson of the senior class pre w sided and announced that the pur pose of the meeting was the re hearsal of several new songs for the ' lafayette game next saturday and the practice of cheers booklets published by the brown and white containing the songs and yells were distributed evans 01 announced that the singing on sat urday would be led by reese 93 leader of the glee club assisted by ehlers 01 on the cornet mr gummere 99 and symington 01 were appointed to lead the cheer ing in order to defray the ex penses of mr balliet in coming up from princeton to coach the centre men on the foot ball team contributions were made covering a large portion of the required in a spirited address symington urged the necessity of systematic cheering and good singing at the lafayette game and admonished every undergraduate to be on the b'eachers at this week's practices the presence of dr drown at the meeting aroused hearty ap plause and he addressed the stu dents as follows : ah cannot be equal in their life station all cannot be on the same level in the lecture hall or class room but on the athletic field all meet on the common ground of good fellowship and all are equal in their common desire to see their alma mater gain the supremacy over a rival one of the most im portant of college duties is to at tend all college games in the struggle between opponents the fighters whether on the line of bat tle or on the rush line besides that inspiring shoulder to shoulder elbow to elbow contact between fellow fighters need encourage ment from their backers and noth ing is so inspiring as the entire college body never feel that in a conflict there is but a single forlorn hope there is always a chance until the last play has failed and the last second has gone and until that moment never relax for a instant that vital continued on fourth page through the tackle gains ij yards long tries the end but gains only a few yards and in an attempt to repeat the play fumbles the ball but belknap catches it for the navy by this time the middies are on le j high's 8-yard line on second down the cadets mix up the signals and for the first and only time during the game are thrown for a loss on resume of play long kicks goal from field time 10 minutes i gearhart kicks off again to the 13-yard line and long makes a beautiful run bringing the ball back to almost the center of field where he was downed by gearhart the result of which was gearhart was laid out for a few minutes but ontinued to play though very weak play being resumed adams circles the ends for 10 yards fow ler goes through center for 5 more | horning repeats it adams assisted | by belknap's interference takes a few more and on next play goes over for a touchdown no score gearhart kicks off again but be fore ball could be advanced time is called second half — gearhart is re placed by downey mccormick by person and shonk by barnard navy's line remaining the same belknap kicks off for the navy person caught the ball but before he could advance five yards he was downed person kicks for ten yards and navy gets the ball smith rushes through centre for four yards and is stopped by ful lef who is iaid out by an injury to j his side mccormick is called back j in play again taking his place at full back person taking fuller's ] when play is resumed navy fumbles the ball person falling on it le 1 high fumbles in return and looses to the navy on lehigh's 1 3-yard line by continuous plunging through the centre fowler is forced over for a touch down belknap fails to kick goal belknap kicks off again for the navy dow getting under the ball which he advances to 315 yard lline persons kicks but navy fails to catch and an offside play by dornin on navy's 45-yard line gives navy ten yards here it was that both sides began a kicking game lehigh hoping to keep the ball out of the territory while the cadets hoping that if they could get it in lehigh's they might force it over for another touch-down navy kicks dow continued on third page a large crowd including more ladies than men witnessed the game between the naval cadet and lehigh and saw them defeat lehigh in great style by the large score of 15 to o the middies are much stronger than last year anc during the first half had lehigh completely at their mercy al though lehigh outweighed her opponents the cadets made steady gains through lehigh's line and around her ends in the first hali the middies clearly outplayed the boys from bethlehem but as usual the latter did not wake up until the second half and not until then did they prove they knew even the ele mentary game mccormick's kick ing and line plunging was very poor with the best opportunities he could only kick 15 yards this together with the injuries received by the different men was responsi ble for the poor showing lehigh entirely failed to make any consid erable gains from the scrimmage and held for four downs only once during the game some changes were made in the annapolis line-up adams taking rogers's place at tackle and bouff replacing adams at center this change was a big improvement as adams frequently played behind the line and made a touchdown in the first half long in this half kicked a goal from the field in the second fowler scored a goal belknap failing to kick goal twice first haif gearhart kicks off for lehigh long catches ball on io-yard line and by a splendid run aided by beautiful interference ad vances ball to 40-yard line navy fumbles and farabaugh gets the pigskin mccormick makes an at tempt to kick but fails the ball be ing blocked by bouff who falls on it here it was that the sailor boys showed their skill adams rushes through left guard for a gain of 5 yards lunt repeats the play long circles the ends for 5 more and on next play lehigh gets the ball on a fumble mccormick makes another attempt to kick this time the ball going out of bounds 15 yards distant navy gets the ball on next
