these examinations are final 1902 epitome meeting there will be a meeting of the 1902 epitome board at the phi gamma delta house on tuesday december 18 ' at 7.15 p.m review of foot ball season the cleveland " leader " of dec 15 contains the following about a new alumni club at that place : former alumni of lehigh university of south bethlehem pa founded by the famous asa packer to the number of 18 gathered at the colonial hotel last night to form an organixation its object is to renew and extend acquaintances among those who have matriculated from the famous old university and for social in tercourse to further the objects in tended it was resolved to hold a first an nual banquet of what is to be known as the lehigh club of cleveland while discussing an elaborate repast the men assembled talked over old times and compared notes on their college days the idea of forming a permanent organi zation met with ready approval and it was resolved to invite to membership all lehigh alumni who reside in cleveland and its immediate vicinity to about the number of forty when the election of officers was in order walter p rice director of public works was unanimously chosen presi dent ; harry b strong vice president ; and f l grammer secretary and treas urer among those present were walter p rice harvey b strong w s duns comb john t bourke s mason bines barnesville o ; c m knight r ger opera house was crowded with the elite of the beth lehems on saturday evening to witness the annual performance of the minstrel association the en tire production was a most happy culmination of the efforts of the association and called forth a con tinuous round of applause from the time the curtain arose until the end of the performance the show be gan with the singing of alma mater by the chorus and as the end men clad in gaudy crimson costumes took their places they were intro duced by mr e w miller 96 who acted as interlocutor the ap pearance of hank crane jack symington and buck " bohannon all of whom made a great hit in last year's performance was a sig nal for vigorous applause and their jokes and funny stunts were quite up to expectations the new end men messrs " tommy " wright " al " glancy and hinckle were equally well received and succeeded in making things lively for instruc tors and students alike scoring several good hits which set the audience in an uproar and brought a very perceptible coloring to the faces of those hardest hit the solos were all catchy and new and were well rendered the chorus was strong and sang in perfect uni son under the leadership of heit shu 01 the quartet renditions were excellent continued on third page part second consisted of a bur lesque entitled " the coming scholar written by a lehigh grad uate and introducing a number of striking specialties and side split ting take-offs on persons well known about college it is ingeni ously represented as a " serio comico calico filipino burlesque me one inning time — present seene — anywhere it introduces king again also and queen kemo kimo filipino sovereigns with their minister prime goo goo minister sub-one loo loo and secretary dr ash box to whom come certain representatives of high lee and laughing yet col leges with offers and inducements for educating the numerous sons of the royal family at the assem blage of the court they are enter tained in a novel manner by a num the first dance in the series given by the sophomore cotillion club last thursday evening was a decided success from every standpoint a goodly number of dances fine music and artistic decorations com bined to make the occasion thoroughly enjoyable and one long to be remembered nearly forty couples participated in the dancing among the guests being many out of town belles in pretty gowns adding greatly to the gayety and color of the festive scene twenty-eight dances were on the program consisting of fourteen waltzes and a like number of two steps during the intermission dainty refreshments were served before the continuation of the danc ing which lasted well into the early morning hours groman's orchestra often pieces furnished music for the dancing in a thoroughly acceptable manner the decorations by hemmerly con sisted of a neat combination of national and college colors draping the walls in gracefulfe stoons the cotillion club is to be heartily con gratulated on its marked success classmate of mr williams at lehigh university : mr frank williams well known by all connected with the iron and steel industries of the country died at his home johnstown pa oct 1 6th 1900 mr williams was born may 19 1865 in johnstown where his father was superintendent of the johnstown water and gas co for many years mr williams received his ele mentary education in johnstown and after leaving the high school spent two years in the laboratory of the cambria iron co entering lehigh university september 1883 he there took a course in mining and metallurgy graduating in 1886 with the degree of b s and after a year of post-graduate study received the degree of e m during his course he played on the foot ball team and was a member of numerous college societies and organizations both social and
