trip meet to be run off on upper field before frosh base ball game battle expected frosh to meet plans for future meets notice juniors all arrangements have been completed for the jun ior banquet and everything is set for a successful affair the changing of the date to next wednesday was agree able to all concerned includ ing the faculty the hotel traylor and the guests the same tickets will be used and more are being sold every day all juniors are urged to attend and to get their tickets as soon as possible from one of the members of the committee which consists of trainer pakenham prior and fountain the price is 2.50 frosh baseballers down beth prep the frosh baseball team will entertain a squad from mcken zie school monroe new york when it plays on taylor field saturday afternoon coach pet riken claims that the mckenzie team is capable of forcing the brown and white to a real ex ertion if it hopes to keep its record clean little is known of the mcken zie team friday afternoon it meets the lafayette freshmen and its success or failure in that game will give an indica tion of its possibilities against the lehigh frosh to be con sidered threatening it must win by a better than twelve-five score the frosh have had a very satisfactory season so far and plan to add another victory on saturday a defeat at the hands of allentown prep is its only re verse of the schedule the game saturday calls at 3 30 seltzer in usual form holds visitors in check while teammates pile up lead mustard & cheese elects new men on saturday afternoon imme diately following the track meet with lafayette the sophomore cabinet will give a tea dance in drown hall the best of le high's orchestras have been pro cured for this event and the dancing will last for about two hours the members of the several girls schools in this city have been invited over in order to take care of the demand for partners which arises at these functions the sophomore cabinet has been doing its best to break the ice which seems to have settled over the social activities at le high and it is slowly paving the way for greater social events next year it is the duty of every lehigh man who feels that greater so the advanced classes of the military science dept are to make their annual pilgrimage to camp tobyhanna for the pur pose of work on the rifle rang es the men are to be in camp over the week-end and during that time they are to be under regular military discipline the lehigh contingent is to leave in two convoys and is to consist of fifty men the first convoy leaves christmas hall at one ip m on thursday and the sec ond is to leave at four p m of the same day camp tobyhan na is situated twenty miles above stroudsburg and is en tirely surrounded by the poco no mountains thus making an excellent location the work is to consist of fir ing practice in the pistol rang es practice with other types of guns and also rifle platoon drill all of the men are looking forward to the trip with great anticipation and rain will hot dampen their enthu siasm in the least it will be remembered that last year the men were fortunate enough to encounter rainy weather and so spent most of their time date the record of the marylanders is far more im pressive than that of the lehigh team after losing to yale by a close score they came back and won their next four games swarthmore was trounced last saturday by the score of ten to one this year maryland was ad mitted to the southern division and they are out for their first championship lehigh and johns hopkins whom they beat last year are the shall be ineligible to represent in the annual field meet any other colleges until he has thereafter attended such member of the m a s c a a he desires to represent one full calendar year heretofore the rule read that a man who has won a first place the point scoring system agreed upon to govern the inter collegiates will be five places in stead of four these will be 5 points for first 4 points for sec ond 3 points for third 2 points for fourth and 1 point for fifth it was requested that hereafter a freshman middle athletic one mile relay be added to the university of pennsylvania re lay curtis intro duced a new subject to the members of the beaux arts so ciety last wednesday evening when he addressed them on the baconian cypher which has long been a bone of contention in literary circles he present ed an interesting and instruc tional discussion of the cypher as it has been found in the ! works of the leading literary masters of the elizabethan per iod in his address mr curtis pointed out that the plays of mar low shakespeare peele greene spencer and johnson as well as bacon could be re translated according to the ba conian cypher in such a manner as to give a complete biography of francis bacon and an accu rate history of the reigns of henry the eighth queen mary and queen elizabeth he first told of the life of francis bacon and then of the history of the royal dynasty which prevailed at the close of the sixteenth and the opening decades of the seventeenth cen turies quoting a volume of na tional biographies mr curtis established the parentage of ba con and then endeavored to prove that adequate reasons ex isted to believe in the baconian cypher the baconian cypher is of particular interest because it con on page 4 col 2 con on page 4 col 4 theodore bethlehem chapter and swimming super visor at the local school the presentation came as a complete surprise to mr bald win who visited liberty high to examine one of coach stark's pool proteges the latter was camile weidner who assisted in charge of swimming at sau con park last summer and who today passed the examiners test the activities of james e baldwin in life saving and oth er swimming affairs extend ov er a long period of years he is a graduate of the first life sav ing institute of the american red cross life saving and wa ter sports and has given free service for four years in teach ing a r c life saving meth ods he was a teacher at the harvard summer school in life saving and swimming and a teacher at the second institute at plymouth mass in the a r c life saving methods mr howe's biography barrett wendell and his letters judged to be the best biography of the year mr howe has many acquain tances in bethlehem the late mrs george pomeroy allen who resided for a number of years in bethlehem while her liusband was rector of trinity episcopal church east market street was a sister of mr howe and both were children of the late bishop howe of the protes tant episcopal church mr howe is probably le high's most renowned living man of letters and as editor and writer has had a brilliant car eer since he received his degree here he has come back to this city frequently to attend the bach festival and visit his al ma mater kidnapping and scraps like the birds in spring are the forerunners of the banquets ot the sophomore and freshman classes of lehigh university on monday evening the cam pus and packer avenue in the neighborhood of new street was a bee-hive of activity when the men of both classes began the annual scrap to prevent ei ther of the affairs coming
