pointed out many of its historical at tractions he also took occasion in con tinuing his address to compare adminstrative problems of to day with those of seventy years previous educational duties then he said were simple and sought by few men and no women now it has become an essential to one in making a liv ing as simple as it was then so has it now become complex call for actors and boston betters lehigh's time fridays prom bright affair on saturday april 25 the lehigh r o t c unit staged its annual review before the war department inspecting offi cers in taylor stadium every man came out on the field look ing his best and fully prepared for a thorough examination of all he had learned during the year all were resolved that lehigh should again be ranked among the distinguished colleg es by the war department as she has been successively for four years in the past the review proved to be quite a gala affair as it was witnessed by a large number of weekend visitors and town people at about 8:15 a m it started with a formal military review befoi'e the government inspectors who were colonel kent of the gene ral staff and major watrous of the adjutant's office this was the spectacular event of the day the band marched the length of the field and then was followed by the four companies in order each one executing eyes right as it passed the reviewing stand to the accompaniment of mar tial music con on page 4 col 3 a rigorous inspection of ev ery phase of military discipline and tactics followed in which the students had been instructed since the beginning of the year it was necessary to abandon the program previously prepared including the sham battle which was to have been a feature of the day instead the inspecting officers followed out a uniform plan of inspection which is to unexpected showing by scar let runners earns win in perm relays the lehigh lacrosse team bowed before johns hopkins in spite of their superior stick work by the score of three goals to two the outstanding star of the game was lehigh's in home ed packenham this scintillating attack man was all over the field leading the brown and white on to renewed efforts or forming and cheese show russian around when it was most enthusiastically re ceived by a capacity crowd in the liberty high school audi torium on last saturday night the success of the club in such an ambitious production should place it on a level with the lead ing student dramatic clubs of the east for the entire play was thoroughly original and in its amusing dialogue there were no dull moments so often typical of college plays the show was entirely the work of lehigh stu dents with the exception of the professional coach mr j p callon who directed the cast and chorus for the past month f b dorton president of the club was largely responsible for the very clever book and ly rics while r neely and g m burlingame worked with him on the musical numbers which shall undoubtedly retain their the way of shows the plot con cerns the travels of two young american collegians in the swiss alps where they chance to meet a russian princess who is being sought after by a weal thy german financier the mys terious princess then loses by theft a tiger's eye ring which is priceless in its value the two americans then set out in search of the jewel and after it has been taken from the posses sion of the villian by two moun tain guides who return it to the americans they in turn return it to the princess and thus win her favor dor ton and colclough con on page 4 col 4 the muhlenberg baseball team invaded taylor stadium saturday afternoon with one of the best teams that ever repre sented the cardinal and gray and defeated the lehigh nine 5-3 although outhit by nine to eight the muhlenberg team bunched their hits and coupled with two passes scored enough runs to turn back the brown and white nine captain adams was coach baldwin's choice to do the hur ling but it seemed very much as if bob had not yet fully re cuperated from his illness for the visitors bill ziegenfuss not only pitched a fine brand of ball but his homer in the fourth with the bases filled practically won the game right then honey lewin who has been doing ex cellent utility work as a pinch hitter played right field for le high and his two circus catches were very responsible in keep ing the muhlenberg score down to five tallies in the fourth after ambler had thrown out mull leh sin gled witt and jones walked and adams found himself in a very tight place with the muhlenberg fans calling for bill to win his own game zieg enfuss caught one of adams slants and drove it far out in left center for a home run in the seventh hurd hit the ball in the same field and scampered over the plate without even with lafayette with dancing for two and a half hours to very good music by lehigh's best or chestra it is planned that the members of two or three girls schools of the vicinity shall be invited to attend and with this inducement the dance promises to be a great success it is the desire of the sophomore cabin et to increase the amount of campus social activity next year and a proper outcome to calculus crema tion wherein the students im personated those professors of peculiar well-known character istics staging a play and a mock trial with a character repre senting calculus as the cen ter of much disturbance and of uncongenial notoriety amid prosecution by the students and a weak defense by the faculty members of the court calculus was sentenced to the stake a huge fire and much revelry on the part of the students wit nessed by numerous alumni who joined whole-heartedly in the festivities and some three thou sand towns people made this occasion the featuring event of the commencement week pro gram calculus cremation be came a traditional event looked forward to by the returning al umni as well as the students and local people one year during the late war it was impossible to hold this customary celebration and last year it was missed again when i con on page 4 col 2 the university of pennsylva nia tennis team proved too strong for the lehigh racquet wielders and won the match played last saturday afternoon 5 to 3 one of the doubles matches was unfinished because of rain all three of lehigh's victories were registered in the singles while perm was defeated mcfadden and doty 6-4 6-2 con on page 4 col 2 last friday evening drown hall witnessed one of the most successful junior proms ever given in the history of the af fair attractive and colorful decorations excellent music and many fair visitors combined to make the evening one that will be long remembered from start to finish everyone should compliment the class of 26 and particularly the dance commit tee which attended to all the necessary arrangements • over 125 couples danced to the music of carl fenton's or chestra of atlantic city and victor record fame the num bers played were well chosen and calculated to fit the taste of everyone during the evening encore after encore was re quested yet when the dance end ed no one seemed to have enough it is hoped that this splendid
