wilson 1 90 1 ; chamberlain 1903 carrier 1903 ; hertzler 1903 ; macfarlane 1903 ; smith 1903 ; mcdevitt 1904 dow 1904 the convention was attended by a number of lehigh alumni and was addressed by bishop talbot •»-«-*• lacrosse next saturday a good-sized crowd saw lehigh defeated saturday afternoon by the above close score by the crack manhattan college team in ; s pretty a game of ball as has been seen on the lehigh diamond for some time with such a close score the contest was undecided until the last man had gone out and the loyal lehigh rooters kept up hope until the last the game was primarily a pitcher's battle with honors on both sides taylor for lehigh pitched a very clever game allowing the visitors only four hits and with perfect support would have shut them out although we have no complaint due on this score thielman for manhattan gave by far the cleverest exhibition of pitching seen here this year he allowed lehigh only two hits and with speed fine control and perfect support was nearly unassail able apart from the pitching the game was marked by clean sharp fielding in which eisenhart gave probably the star exhibition of the day manhattan started the run-get ting in the first inning duff reached first base on reese's fumble of a hard grounder and stole second kearns next up struck out but cotler was hit by a pitched ball and took his base the latter together with duff was advanced a base by mullin's out and both men crossed the plate on thielman's hit to left cotler however cut third base by twenty feet on his way home and was declared out for not touching third retiring the side the first three men for lehigh went out in order lilley on a foul fly for which the manhattan third baseman had to climb way up the bank in the second inning we tied the score with our only run persons flew out to short but tay lor hit safely and stole second he was advanced to third by reese's scientific sacrifice and scored on de schweinitz's timely hit the latter was forced out at second by bohannon retiring the side manhattan scored the winning run in the third after two were out on cotler's two-bagger and mul lin's hard ground ball to parsons lehigh was cheated out of two home runs by persons in the 4th prof richards has donated to this department a suite of nineteen specimens of tin ore illustrating the occurrence of tin on the irish creek rockbridge county vir ginia the specimens were collec ted by prof richards personally while making an examination of the property in december last the mines promise to become an important source of tin ore when properly developed ■-*-«.-«. w r pierce 8y ;
