calendar nomination 6 ! for officers of the senior class will be held in saucon hall wednesday oct 11th at 12.30 p m senior class meeting a meeting of the junior class will be held immediately after economics thursday to elect offi cers for the ensuing year e b wilkinson pres junior class meeting track team all the men who took part in the relay race or lafayette meet last spring will please report at the gym on saturday oct 14 at 11.30 a m to have a picture taken notice — at a meeting of the spanish american society resolu tions upon the very sad death of gustavo rovelo 99 were taken and it was also resolved to hold a funeral in his honor at the holy infancy church fourth and locust streets south bethlehem on sat urday morning oct 14 at 7 a m the faculty and entire college is invited to attend these ceremonies manuel de la mora pres the banner which the freshmen carried in the opening day rush and which was taken from them by the upper classmen will be given to the class which wins the foun der's day sports lost — a pair of gloves in the chapel last week the iinder will greatly favor t m dodson 00 by returning them to him founder's day hop the founder's day hop will take place on thursday oct 12th it is hoped that college men es pecially the freshmen will turn out and make the dance a success anyone desiring invitations to send away apply to a c dodson 00 tickets 2.50 committee the following is a portion of the sermon delivered by rev steward son in the chapel on sunday morning the text is " that they all may be one all along the line of development we are presented with this two-fold aspect of things — the aspect of things which reveals toe multiplication of dissimilars and tbe of things which shows abiding effort - ) omprehend these di-similars within the bosom of a true unity tbe catorial and college life are of course no exceptions to this rule the rise of the physical sciences not only introduced new branches of study and new professorships into our institutions of learning but also compelled such modifi cations of existing educational systems as would make room for all the new departments of instruction as a conse quence the university of today is a much more complex thing than the university of long ago here at lehigh for example we have not only mathematics and latin and greek and philosophy which were included in the ancient curriculum but we have minidg hngineering and civil engineering and electrical engineering and geology and political economy and more besides the branches or particulars of learning have plied students come here with ent objects some to spend their time jhiefly in the physical laboratory others in the chemical behold then our differ ences — our separate spheres of work and yet with all this diversity of work an 1 function the prayer arises from our hearts that we all may be one " we hear it in the cry of the undergraduate for more college spirit we see it empasized in the fact that we have one head or president and in the weekly faculty meeting where ill professors come together to consult and further the common good many and various therefore are the forms in which 2 prayer that we all may be one c-xpresses itself and in concluding what i have to say this morning i wish to point nt one of the most important means by which this common prayer for unity may be realized it is found i believe in this ihapel and in that for which this chapt-1 stands — that which it symbolizes let me therefore try to show in wtat way tuis college chape of ours may help us all to - i ue " in the first place it can assist iv bringing an answer to our prayer by furnishing us with a common meeting ground a place of : jmnion assembly now common assembly is a well recognized means of promoting qity we regret working in our separate laboratories and are intent upon our - parate studies and these necessary as they are teud to mike us oblivious of otber lepartmenta and forgetful of other udent:s we assemble here — men of all asses aud departments — hud we recoguize we bel dug to a great whole we : men shoulders look into each others eyes anl forget for the time being that we are m e s or c e's or l s's iv that we nber we are all lehigh meo members o7g tniz^tion sons of our mothers that despite all our diversitits of lit and occupition,we slure a common : thus does the act cf assembly assist is in becoming one how powerful the act of assembly is in promoting unity has just been witnessed in the c:ty of new york from ail parts of the country men cime together to welcome zhe hero o manila men of every pursuit add of all shades of political opinion united in honoring the great sailor dewey,if you will brought them together and new york vi'led the meeting ground but having dnce met and mingled having stood side by -
