sophomore cotillion club meet ing at delta tau delta house wednesday evening oct 18th at 7 o'clock the usual dance was given in the gymnasium on the evening of founder's day and was a most successful affair the main floor was artistically decorated with the college and national colors and with potted plants while the stiff ness of the stairways and locker rooms was relieved by groups of flags the dance opened with a promenade concert lasting for half an hour when the regular dancing was begun the program was as follows : waltz visions d'amour two-step tommy atkins waltz belle of new york two-step scorcher waltz nordica two-step up the street waltz ist violin two-step georgia campmeeting waltz lady babbie two-step whistling rufus " waltz idol's eye second half two-step liberty bell waltz telephone girl two-step ash cake shuffle waltz serenade two-step cotton blossoms waltz runaway girl two-step „ smoky mokes waltz zenda two-step hands across the sea waltz conquerors two-step oh the field 3.30 wednes day oct 18 harleman acting capt the reception tendered to the freshmen on saturday evening was one of the most successful ever given the number of freshmen present was very gratifying to those interested in the work of the association the faculty was well represented by professors stewardson stewart franklin meaker dr shober and mr heck the first four delivered addresses after refreshments had been served the remainder of the evening was spent in giving college yells and singing college songs there will be a meeting of the board of directors of the supply bureau on wednesday at 12.30 in the supyly room wilkinson secy supply bureau lehigh met her second defeat of the season in a stubbornly con tested game with bucknell on the home grounds saturday afternoon with the exception of an occasion al fumble the game was noticeably free from the looseness which characterized last saturday's con test with rutgers it was essenti ally a kicking game from begin ning to end and it was only due to the superior ability of bucknell's full-back matthewson in this line that the visitors were enabled to turn the score in their favor bucknell put up a strong game but the home team outclassed them in general team work our line held like a stone wall against their opponents charges and re peatedly the guards back formation resulted in a loss of from three to eight yards bucknell made but two first-downs and these were in the beginning of the first half on the other hand chamberlain reese and gledhill ploughed through their heavy line like battering rams and our backs skirted their ends for gains of from three to thirty yards our ends put up a clean snappy game and were down the field like a shot hawley played a good game at full and punted well while griffith showed some improvement in form over his last game both teams played good hard football matthewson and freudenberger excelling for the visitors the one mishap of the game was the breaking of gearhart's collar bone necessitating his withdrawal from the team for the remainder of the season the game began at 3.45 p m with lehigh defending the eastern goal hawley kicked off and bucknell returned the ball to her thirty-five-yard line matthewson kicked to lehigh's forty-yard line and chamberlain caught the ball but was downed hawley kicked forty yards and bucknell returned the kick to lehigh's forty-five yard line hawley again punted twenty yards and again matthew son returned the punt to lehigh's forty-five-yard line bucknell got the ball on a fumble and gained four yards through the line matthewson gained a yard around left end there punted twenty yards llawley caught the punt and returned it thirty yards freudenberger went around right end for ten yards matthewson kicked twemy yards to griffith lehigh lost five yards on a fumble then punted twenty five yards matthewson returned the kick forty yards to griffith who re turned the ball ten yards reese went through the centre for eight yards lehigh fumbled but bray fell on the ball and hawley by the will of mary efnnger ap pley of honesdale pa lafayette college will receive 30,000 to establish the mary e appley free scholarship to educate worthy young men for the ministry or medical profession economics the re examination in eco nomics will take place on friday october 20th at 3.30 p m in professor stewart's lecture room punted out of bounds bucknell's ball on lehigh's twenty-five-yard line bucknell lost three yards on guards back and then matthewson tried a goal from the field but failed hawley kicked forty yards from lehigh's fifteen-yard line matthewson returned the kick to lehigh's twenty-yard line grif fith gained six yards around right end on a double pass and reese made thirty yards around left end pritchard replaced bunnell at quarter gledhill chamberlain and eeese gained two three and six yards respectively through the line bucknell obtained the ball on a fumble on her fifty-yard line lost two yards on guards back and then punted to lehigh's twenty yard line griffith went around left end for six yards on a double pass and gledhill gained three yards through centre chamber lain gained a yard and then buck nell got the ball on downs guards back failed to gain and matthewson punted to lehigh's five-yard line hawley returned the kick twenty five yards to matthewson who was downed in his tracks by gearhart dornin replaced gearhart at right end and matthewson then kicked a field goal from the forty-yard line score bucknell 5 lehigh 0 hawley kicked off to bucknell's twenty-five-yard line and buck nell after advancing the ball ten yards lost it on a fumble le high's ball on bucknell's thirty five-yard line in the second half matthewson kicked off to reese who carried the ball to lehigh's thirty-yard line and then went through centre for three yards more hawley punted twenty three yards and lehigh secured the ball on a fumble lehigh gained four yards around right end and lost the ball on a fumble then bucknell lost four yards on guards back forma tion and matthewson kicked to lehigh's thirty live-yard line gledhill made four yards around right end and chamberlain went through centre for five yards more ; then reese increased it twenty yards by a run around left end on a double pass gled hill and chamberla n made one and five yards respectively
