the christian association of the university held its annual election of officers in christmas hall on saturday evening at 7 o'clock there was a good attendance and the election was a spirited one resulted as follows president — moore 01 vice president — garrnan 01 corres sec'y — van sickle 03 eec sec'y rogers 03 treasurer — gilbert 01 a meeting of the mechanical engineering section will be held in packer hall tuesday march 6 at 7.15 p m paper by maeder 1900 on direct process method and its accessories " lafayette's athletic financial report forum the regular meeting of the forum will be held wednesday february 28 at 7.15 p m the question to be debated is resolved that u s senators should be elected by a direct vote of the people " affirmative wilkinson and harleman ; negative huggins and barager re-examinations the faculty has appointed the following re-examinations : eng lish all classes feb 28 2 p m political economy juniors marca 10 2p m french and german all classes march 21 2 p m senior c e subjects march 24 2 p m junior and sophomore g e subjects april 17 8.30 a m junior and sophomore e e and physics april 17 2 p m mathe matics all classes and astronomy april 18 2 p m glee club continued on third page forests discussed by professor rothrock the second lecture of fhe course was delivered in the large lecture foom of the physical laboratory on friday morning by professor j t rothrock commissioner of forestry of the state of pennsylva nia professor eothrock's subject was : " the relations of the for ests of pennsylvania to the inter ests of the state the lecture was profusely illustrated by a large number of streopticon views in introducing the speaker dr brown spoke of the fact that there was no subject of greater import ance than the one about to be pre sented as the day is quickly ap proaching when this phase of nat ural development will have to be considered from a more serious standpoint on account of the rapid decline of the forests all over our land the substance of mr roihrock's remarks was as follows : one of the greatest factors in in the prosperity of any common wealth is nature's own develop ments in the form of the forests this fact is one of the principal reasons why england has been and is now mistress of the seas it is the fundamental law underlying the present prosperity of our rich state and in fact one of the most important subjects to be considered in any state of the union about forty-three years ago i took a trip through the state of pennsylvania on foot and at that time found the entire country well strewn with vast unbroken forests a few days ago i traveled the same route and observed that it was greatly changed where the foiests flourished a little over a quarter of a century ago there is nothing but barren soil ;
