every man in college is invited to hear mr norton and enjoy good hearty singing at 6.15 p m the hockey team practiced twice yesterday at knickerbocker pond and several new men came out of whom agnew a 26th of february the pennsylvania williams hall the new science building of the university of ver mont is now ready for use it is the gift of dr edward h wil liams of philadelphia and cost 60,000 the editor in-chief of the lan tern the organ published by the students of the state university of ohio has been expelled from that institution on account of an edi torial censuring the members of the faculty for non-attendance at chapel exercises baseball notes just as soon as the second term opens captain gannon of the base ball team will post a notice re quiring all candidates for the team to attend the special gymnasium drills which will begin on mon day feb 8 with several years experience the athletic committee has decided that the fine condition of the teams and their good show ing when they take the field in the early spring practice is largely due to these drills the drills as given by mr smith train the men to such a degree that all signs of stiffness or soreness of the muscles are absent when outdoor work be gins much will depend on the interest taken in this preliminary work as captain gannon an nounces that only those who at tend regularly will be considered candidates for the southern trip the cage work will not begin until the arrival of coach bannon about march 23 when the battery candidates will start work and the men trying for the field a short time later many changes will occur this season which cannot help but be decided improvements possibly the most important will be the new diamond ; this means better fielding from the men and also does away with the trouble and time lost in going to rittersville for practice another improvement will be a regular organized scrub in charge of mr smith as captain and the assistant manager games away from home will be arranged be sides other inducements which it is hoped will be sufficient attrac tion to the men so that they will play regularly this means that after a preliminary practice the scrub aided by a varsity battery will play a regular practice game with the first team a change which cannot but be a most decided im provement still another change which will be tried this year is doing away with the training table this has been a big factor in the expense account and this step is therefore rendered necessary this year taking into consideration the improve ments to the field from the following list it will be noticed that all the games will not be with minor college teams manager white only announces these two games will be played with princeton the first here on april 28 and the second at prince ton on may 5 with yale we will have but one game and that will be played at new haven may 26 it is possible that the two games with university of pennsylvania will have to be changed ; the game to be played in philadelphia was scheduled for april 24 but since arranging this date the relay races at university of pennsylva nia have been announced for that day and as they interfere the ball lehigh club dinner arrangements have been nearly completed for the dinner to be given to dr paul j dashiell at the hotel savoy on jan 30 from present indications the affair will be a great success in
