the dual track and field meet between lehigh and new york university will take place next saturday may 15 at ohio field new york university assumes entire charge of the games and will give individual prizes to winners of events and a banner to the win ning team it is hoped that this contest will be the beginning of an annual affair of this kind and that the feeling of friendly rivalry thus begun will be kept up indefinitely the management has spared no pains in making these sports a suc cess in every way programs of the events will contain cuts of the teams from both universities also of college buildings our part of the program is to send down the very best team pos sible and even things up if we can by adding a victory to our former defeat to do this the men must work conscientiously the rest of this week so that they may be in the pink of condition on saturday mr smith will coach men who desire it any hour in the morning or during the early part of the afternoon and will be glad to give information to all at any time work hard men and let us win instead of lectures in sophomore physics the following quizzes will beheld on thursday may 13 and tuesday may 18 the first half of electricity and magnetism upon which no quiz has yet been held on thursday may 20 and tuesday may 26 on the remaining half of this subject on monday may 10 upon the first third of the subject of light ; on monday may it upon the second third of light and on monday may 24 upon the remainder upon the result of these quizzes will depend the ex emption from a final examination there will be a regular meeting f the civil section of the engineer ing society in the physical fabora tory on tuesday evening at which time dufour 96 will give a paper on " the recently completed re taining wall at easton president lacrosse between four and five hundred people saw lehigh defeat harvard in lacrosse on saturday last the audience was composed of people of the bethlehems ; a bevy of moravian seminar 7 girls and of course the usual number of lehigh men that they were all pleased with the game was shown by their numeious bursts of appiause the game was especially interesting from the fact that we were playing harvard and also from the fact that the team expected a hard game harvard made a very fair showing here last year and it was expected she would do much better this year but when it was found that she had played a tie game with swarthmore the day before lehigh stock took a decided rise the ball was faced off at exactly 8.30 o'clock lehigh defending the eastern goal the ball was soon brought near lehigh's goal but avilliams received it and soon had it out of harm's way the ball was now passed up and down the field both sides playing hard le high tried for goal but it was stopped by sands the ball was then passed up the field and har vard got a try for goal which was neatly stopped by pennington ; after a series of passes good secured the ball and made a try at goal the ball hitting the post and glancing off the ball was then passed down the field edgar caught passed to lee and lee passed to merriman who shot the goal scoring lehigh's first point twenty minutes after playing began after the ball was faced off the second time lehigh began to play some pretty team work the ball was passed backward and forward and was finally passed in front of lehigh's goal a scrimmage en sued in which by mistake gum mere batted through harvard's only goal time 10 minutes harvard now seemed to be playing her best but lehigh had settled down into her old time form and was doing beautiful stick work the ball after a series of passes was caught by merriman and passed to roundy who shot the goal time 2 minutes upon a wild try for goal thurs ton secured the ball behind har vard's posts and passed to good who shot an easy goal time 3 minutes from now on till the end of the half the play was very spirited and at the call of time the ball was near harvard's goal score harvard 1 ; lehigh 3 the second half started at 4.15 o'clock with lehigh playing a much faster game after numer ous attempts at goal the ball was finally caught by good who shot a very difficult goal score : le high 4 ; harvard 1 both the teams were now play ing a hard and fast game the ball owing to the lack of a necessary quorum the meeting oi the agora on last thursday evening was postponed until thursday of this week when the election of officers and a burr representative will take place baseball lehigh 16 ;
