notices the lollowing men will com pose the team going to new york on saturday next may 15th in case any of these men will be un able to go on saturday please let mr smith or mr putman know at once time of leaving will be posted later : high jump — yates broad jump — yates putnam 100-yards cj?.sh — putnam yates j brice 220-yards dash — putnam yates e e eowe 440-yards dash — horner,grubbe dehm j mile — abbot grubbe schwe rin mile — abbot kodjbanoff mead er 120 hurdle — eeese j brice holderness 220 hurdle — reese j brice holderness mile walk — turner hammer — mccarthy eeese shot — mccarthy reese meader holderness these men must get out every day this week to get in the best possible shape putnam capt the senior and junior c e visit professor merriman took a party of civils to niagara falls last thursday to inspect the numerous enterprizes there that are of so much interest to engineers friday morning the paper mills were in spected and also the abutments for the large arch bridge that is soon to be constructed to replace the old suspension bridge just below the falls this bridge will have a span of 840 feet and will be the largest arch bridge in the world friday afternoon was spent in ex amining the beautiful substantial looking railroad arch bridge that is to take the place of the famous roebling suspension bridge the first railroad suspension bridge in the world the arch bridge is rapidly near ing completion and is the largest one at present in the world this bridge is situated just above the famous rapids friday evening other points in the town were visited and satur day morning bright and early the party went out to the model village echota where mr throop an old lehigh man who laid out the town was on hand to show the different points of interest the sewerage and drainage systems were examined and then the water supply and method of water puri fication were inspected the cele brated plant of the niagara power company was the next object of interest here the party had the opportunity of seeing the process of excavation for the seven new turbines that the company is soon to add to its plant this excavation is to be carried down 190 feet in the solid rock in the afternoon the carborun dum works and other industries were inspected and a pleasant and instructive visit was closed by further inspection of the town sat urday evening a meeting of the sophomore class will be held next wednesday at 12.30 o'clock in christmas hall at which nominations will be open ed for next year's epitome board and the question of calculus cre mation finally decided there must be a quorum grace president sophomore class meet ing a meeting of the sophomore class was held at ' christmas hall on monday last vice president middledith called the meeting to order and after a few introductory remarks expressing his regret at the small number of men present mr middledith brought up the subject of calculus cremation be fore the class chairman liorner of the calculus cremation commit tee made his report which was received with favor the treas urer's report was read and a plea was made to the class for money nothing could be definitely decid ed however on account of there not being a quorum present mr visscher spoke in behalf of the brown and white and urged the men to pay their subscriptions this week there being no further business the meeting adjourned final reviews in sophomore cal culus and mechanics began this week mr hugh beaver mr hugh beaver the y m c a college secretary of pennsylva nia but who will soon leave the work to enter upon similar duties with the international committee of new york will be at lehigh fri day evening he will address a college meeting and every man is invited to hear him he needs no introduction for having been here before he has found a warm place in the friendship of all who have come in contact with him the meeting will be in christ mas hall friday evening at 7.30 lacrosse the game with swarthmore which was to have been played at swarthmore on wednesday was cancelled by their manager on wednesday morning the harvard inter-class boat races were held on friday 99 won first place and 98 98 second besides the initiation fee of 5 by a recent ruling the members of the banjo and mandolin clubs of cornell are required to pay a fine of twenty-five cents if late at re hearsals and 1 if absent without a good excuse non-payment of fines excludes the member from the privileges of the club the annual yale-harvard dual athletic games will be held at the yale field on saturday afternoon and will probably be the most closely contested meet ever held by two universities the total num ber of points in the meet will be 104 necessary to win 53 first in each event will count 5 points ;
