third on fugitt's hit to the infield and w grace who succeeded reed at third came in on a passed bail ; reed got his base on balls but was forced at second by pomeroy after t gannon had struck out the rest of the game was a series of strike-outs with an occasional base on balls and infield out but in the fourth inning oritani scored two more touhey hit a fly over the centerfielder's head and reached second on the throw-in on a ques tionable decision of the umpire he got third and dollard got first on fueitt's error of the latter's ground hit ; dollard was thrown out trying to steal second ; die trich went to first on balls reach ing second on lawlor's out short to first ; both men scored on leon ard's two-base hit but the latter was left as fishel was out w gannon to w grace this ended the scoring for oritani for lehigh e grace made a good catch of a difficult fly in the third but dropped a hard line drive from the bat of the next man up in the eighth reed caught a low line drive after a hard run and threw to second completing the only double play of the game w gannon played a good heady game in the box for oritani the pitching of fishel was the feature score : earned run oritani 1 two-base hits touhey leonard ; stolen bases carman 2 dollard 1 double play reed to pugitt bases on balls off gannon 3 off fishel 6 hit by pitched ball murphy fishel struck out by gannon 2 by fishel 20 passed ball dollard umpire golden intercollegiate track meet tho annual meet of the intercol legiate association of amateur athletes of america was held at berkeley oval on saturday and resulted in a victory for the uni versity of pennsylvania the re sult was a great surprise to the two thousand spectators present the odds before the games being decidedly in yale's favor how ever the result clearly showed the superiority pennsylvania has ac quired this year by their hard work in this line of athletics and by the skillful training of mike murphy the surprise of the day was the defeat of wefers by colfelt of princeton this is the latter's first appearance on the intercollegiate track and the showing he made was hardly expected by even his most sanguine friends however with all justice to colfelt it is safe to say that had wefers been run ning in his accustomed form the result would have been far differ ent the high wind blowing in the face of the sprinters was undoubt edly accountable for the slow time made in the short runs in the other events the performance was far above the average in the high jump five men cleared 6 feet and windsor of pennsylvania in an exhibition jump of 6 ft 3 in broke the intercollegiate record johnson of yale broke the pole vault record by almost an inch clearing the bar at 11 ft 3-f in woodruff of pennsylvania by throwing the hammer 136 ft 3 in broke hickok's record of 135 ft 101 i n . perkins of yale burke of bos ton university hollister of har vard and orton of pennsylvania showed up in their usual fine form while garrett of princeton sur passed himself by making seven points the mile walk promised to be of especial interest on account of the unusually large number of entries fetterman took the lead with three yale men directly behind him and two more slightly back for the first quarter the race was very exciting ; then the leading yale man was disqualified for not walking according to the rules before the second quarter was over the next two yale men were re moved for the same reason and on the next lap the others leaving fetterman far in the lead he fin ished probably 1-16 of a mile ahead of any of his competitors the bicycle races are to be held next saturday but even if yale should win eight points in these the lead of pennsylvania is too great to be overcome the summary of the events is as follows : 3 00-yard dash b j wefers georgetown first t r fisher continued on third page baseball lehigh i ;
