it does not seem well to drop too much at the first trial and surely not that game on which lehigh can claim to be an authority among the old as well as the new lacrosse associations were a canvass now to be taken there surely would be a large ma jority of the alumni and under graduates who would stand by la crosse it may be out of season to bring the matter up now but no possible harm can result from putting the college on its guard a senior electrical engineer ing society the first regular meeting of the electrical engineering society for the current year was held in the physical laboratory on tuesday night president hall opened the meeting by welcoming all present and by expressing a desire that the coming year be as successful a year for the society as the two previous years have been the president appointed flory jackson and weideman a com mittee to look up subjects refer ences etc for papers to be read before the society on motion men were appointed to take note of whatever of interest appeared in the electrical papers the men to make a report before the society the following are the appointments made : the electri cal world cooke ; the electrical engineer given ; the electrical age badgley ; the electrician morgan the matter of getting the junior e e.s interested in the meetings was not brought up mr webb their instructor kindly consented to speak to the section concerning membership the following men were elected members of the so ciety : kennedy 97 active ; hom er and grratz 98 associate a very interesting and instructive paper on " storage batteries " was read by cooke 96 in this paper mr cooke gave a thorough and exhaustive description of the stor age battery its action manufac ture cost etc finally giving a list of its chief uses dr macfarlane and instructor j li klinck then favored the society with remarks on the subject jackson 96 gave a talk on the edison three-wire system following which there was a lively discussion as to the saving of copper by the use of this system a vote of thanks was then ex tended to the men who had favored the society with discussions and the meeting adjourned the harvard library contains pictures of all its classes since 1752 cornell goes back to the exami nation system this year lehigh university south bethlehem pa september 26 1895 vol 111 no 5 the brown and white calendar friday 27 12.30 architectural club meeting in saucon hall 7 p m business meeting l u c in physical laboratory saturday 28 — 7.10 p m business meeting l u c a christ mas hall 10.30 scrub lacrosse game 11 a m to 1 p m junior elections christmas hall 3 p m athletic grounds football game lehigh vs rutgers 2 p m meeting sociedads hispano americana 123 w fourth street 8 p m dr worcester's lec ture in physical laboratory sunday 29 6.15 p m christian association christmas hall monday 30 7.15 p m agora meeting in christmas hall mathematical club the first regular meeting of the mathematical club was held in packer hall monday evening the attendance was very encouraging several 97 men being present loomis and yohn 97 have availed themselves of the privilege of mem bership due to their rank in mathe matics and several others are pre paring papers to compete for the seven vacancies yet to be filled professor thornburg was unani mously elected an honorary mem ber of the club plans for the year were discussed and the meetings promise to be very enjoyable papers on the slide rule will be read at the next meeting this subject was discussed late last term but many interested were detained from the meeting by ex aminations and in answer to num erous requests it will be repeated senior class meeting a special meeting of the senior class was held in the english room packer hall on wednesday at 12.30 the object of the meeting was to consider the proposed change in the constitution allowing every man in the class a vote whether or not his class dues have been paid the question was immediately raised as to what men were eligible to vote on the amendment ac cording to a strict interpretation of the constitution no one is allowed to vote on any question unless his dues are paid up to within two months of the vote on said ques tion further objection was made in regard to allowing any man to vote unless he had paid all his dues from his freshman year up to the present time this would exclude a man who had paid his sopho more and junior dues in full al though manifestly unjust a strict interpretation of the constitution would uphold the above and since the question was raised the objec tion held good this blocked all further business and the meeting adjourned after an election for those eligible to vote had been ordered for thursday sept 26 notices
