founder's day hop the founder's day hop which will take place on thursday oct 10 is one of the old s-ocial insti tutions of the college and has al ways been one of the most prom inent features of the year it is the only distinctive dance in which the whole college can take part and of which the whole college bears the expense and as such should be well sup ported by the students the com mittee has been working hard and faithfully and has all the arrange ments now well under way let all who can attend the founder's day hop and wind up the day in gala fashion sunday oct 1 — 6.30 p m christian association meetingj christmas hall monday oct 7 — senior class elec tion christmas hall thursday oct 10 — 7.30 p m 4)m 4 meeting of c e section en gineering society physical labi oratory notices all freshmen desiring to join the tennis association should do so at once fees firs year 3 every year thereafter 1 money can be paid to 11 w baldwin j 9 o g mac knight 97 j l sheppard 97 the meeting of the l u g as on sunday evening oct 6 will be addressed by two student volun teers from lafayette and a very in teresting meeting is expected all college men are cordially invited to attend chairman missionary cgm ; tickets to the founder's day hop can be obtained from any member of the committee the price is 3.50 j w thurston chairman invitations to the founder's day hop will be given to any student who desires to send them to any of his friends on applica tion to any member of the com mittee j w thurston chairman there will be an important meeting of the brown and white board in the editorial rooms saucon hall at 1.30 p m on friday oct 4 senior elections the election of officers for the senior class was held in christmas hall on wednesday oct 2 from 11.30 a m until 1 p.m fol lowing are the results for presi dent no election ; for vice-presi dent worstall ; for secretary des sauer for treasurer d w wil son jr for historian ayars the nominees for president were lara my dickerman daboll and lord lararny failed of election by one vote the total vote cast was about thirty-five another elec tion for president will probably be held on monday resolutions whereas god in his all wise providence has taken from our midst our dear friend and com panion charles 11 becerra ; be it resolved that we the members of the lehigh university football team of the season of 1894 of which he was an active and enthu siastic member do deeply deplore his loss ; and be it further mesoked that we extend our heartielt sympathy to his family in this their dire bereavement ; and be it also resolved that a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to his family ; that they be printed in the lehigh burr brown and white and bethlehem papers v e johnson w o okeson j w thurston committee a short session of the mechani cal section of the engineering society was held yesterday at 11.30 a m in the senior drawing room packer hall chair man buvinger called the meeting to order and the section at once proceeded to elect the following new members : ferriday curtis strickler mora pool lord gan non dalman w s ayars and rankin of the senior class and boyce reynolds,yohn j l shep ard pennington and brady of the junior class professor klein and instructors heck and knox were elected honorary members of the section the c e society the civil section of the general engineering society held its first meeting for this term in christmas hall thursday evening sept 26 the attendance was very encour aging and the interest that was manifested during the evening in the various plans that were con sidered for the ensuing term was flattering to an extreme the men showed that they were there for the personal benefit they expected to derive — for business this first meeting seems to por tend that the work of the society this term will be of a practical cast in the technical courses of le high there is so much that can be gotten thoroughly only by the severest kind of digging that our men find recreation in a sense in the simplicity of practical con siderations with this end in view a number of subjects were proposed for the consideration of the society during a few of the long winter evenings enscoe proposed " structural iron and steel mcßride railway frogs davenport the b & 0 tunnel also " the chicago drain age canal other subjects pre sented were " city and town sur veying requirements of specifi cations how much law should civil engineers know ?" committees on membership pa pers and on current engineering literature were appointed to report at a subsequent meeting at the next meeting to be held on wednesday evening oct 10 enscoe will present a paper on " structural steel with the aid of our architects it is proposed to consider this subject in many of its bearings communication the board will not hold itself responsible for the sentiments expressed in communications to the editors of the brown and white ; ' gentlemen — lehigh men should be pleased to note mr thurston'g communication in the last browi and white we are now sare } from official sources that no gam will be dropped next spring and therefore it is not my place to i again speak about the movement to do away with lacrosse how ever i will say that in my pre vious communication i was speak ing with a full knowledge of tli facts and although unknown to tbe athletic committee there was a scheme as i mentioned now the plans are shattered the athletic committee is for the game and every true hearted lehigh man should rejoice a senior the subjects for the sophomore essays due oct 16 are 1 br quinsey's sketch of the eng lish mail coach subject inter pretation of part 111 2 the | glory of motion agora a meeting of the agora was held on monday evening at 7.15 after roll call a repoit was heard trom the committee having in charge the revision of the consti tution which was read and held over for action at the next meeting three names were proposed for membership which will be voted upon at the next meeting upon motion the meeting adjourned .» journalism lias become a uni versity subject in germany glee and banjo clubs the glee and banjo clubs have just about begun work for the year and a word or two about them would not be amiss the banjo club as last year will be under the efficient leadership of mr c e pettinos,and lehigh may be assured that in that respect she will be as well represented as she always has been the glee club this year will be trained by a professional leader owing to the resignation of mr whildin and the prospects for it at present are bright all men in college who have the least musical ab.lity are urged to come out everyone who tries will be given a fair chance and the only way to havegood musical clubs is by all coming out the home concert will be given november 23 and besides that several other trips are b ing arranged for this fall one at thanksgiving and another at an earlier date in november ♦ judging from the turnout of the two lower classes this week an ex citing contest will be seen on founder's day after all two articles in competition have been accepted from y i c 97 and subscriber 97 laurie bliss manager daboll received a tele gram yesterday to the effect that laurie bliss the famous yale half back of 92 will be here very shortly to coach the team for three weeks a later telegram states that he will be here tomorrow the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa october 3 1895 senior class meeting engineering society vol 111 no 7 calendar a meeting of the senior class was held in christmas hall at 12.80 yeslerday after the read ing and approval of the minutes oi all previous meetings held this term ihe report of the junior hop committee was submitted the committee reported one of the most successful hops ever held and showed the financial deficiency to be but 43.00 which is very good compared with the hops of former classes the question of a class book was discussed at length and finally resulted in a resolution to the effect that a committee of four be appointed by the president to look into the matter y m c a meeting on saturday evening at 7 o'clock the y m c a business meeting was held in christmas hall after opening the meeting by prayer the minutes of the preceding meeting were read after this the chair men ot the various committees read their reporls they showed that the association is in a flourish ing condition twenty members have been elected this term and as a personal canvass is to be made among the freshmen it is expected that the number of new members will greatly increase there was an election for corres ponding secretary the office hav ing been left vacant by chiles 97 leaving college birch 98 was elected the meeting then ad journed
