football lehigh io ; baltimore athletic club 3 o lehigh ended up her season last thursday by defeating the eleven of the baltimore athletic club by the above score the team left south bethlehem on friday after noon at 4 o'clock and reached bal timore that evening about 8 o'clock and then were driven to the staf ford at which hotel they stopped during their stay thanksgiving day dawned bright and clear and there was every pros pect of a large crowd being present the team dressed at the hotel and were driven out to the grounds which was the field of the balti more baseball club the field was in good condition and there was little or no wind the game was galled for 3 o'clock but long before that time the grounds began to fill up and when play was started there were between three and four thous and people on the grounds the game itself did not present as good an article of football as should have been expected but the day was very warm and the play ing of the baltimore athletic club was too slow to allow much snappy football lehigh outweighed her opponents by at least ten pounds and were also greatly their super iors in team work and knowledge of the game and won the game a great deal easier than the score seems to show for wherever a gain was needed it was made without much difficulty the baltimore athletic club consider ing the disadvantages under which they have labored in respect to practice and training put up a re markably strong game of football their tackling was as a rule hard and low and the play of the half backs janney and charles harrison a brother of harrison.,'9b and of their quarterback arthur parr was of the highest order behind a stronger line they would all of them make a name for them selves the best work done by lehigh was the punting by fitzgerald the play of the two end rushers and the tricks the first touchdown was scored on a trick and when these were used they did not fail to make ground the game in detail was as fol lows : lehigh won the toss and took the south goal pamley kicked off for baltimore and fitzgerald caught and ran it back 5 yards lehigh then lost the ball and fumbled and it was baltimore's ball on lehigh's 40-yard line janney went around the end for 20 yards but on the west play the ball was fumbled and went to lehigh lehigh kicked it 60 yards and on a fumble by poe gunsolus dropped on the ball on baltimore's 30-yard line after some fumbling lehigh again se cured the ball but failed to gain baltimore kicked and senior got the ball and brought it back 10 yards lehigh then lost the ball and fumbled on baltimore's 10 yard line and on the next lineup harri son made a brilliant run through the centre of 20 yards being finally tackled by holderness baltimore then began to play beautifully and used their backs with good effect against lehigh's line they worked the ball to lehigh's 40-yard line where they lost it on a fumble and on the next play lehigh was given 14 yards for off-side play lehigh then put into effect her first trick a double pass from barnard to gass and the latter with a clear field after a pretty run of 40 yards scored the first touchdown fitz gerald failed to kick the goal score lehigh 4 b a c 0 time 15 minutes parmly again kicked off for baltimore and fitzgerald securing the ball he ran it back 10 yards on the next line up he attempted to kick but the ball was blocked and it was baltimore's ball on le high's 20-yard line lehigh now was playing better and baltimore could not gain an inch and the ball went to lehigh on downs van duyne broke through for 20 yards and barnard followed for 10 more the ball was then worked slowly back to the middle of the field when fitzgerald kicked to poe at baltimore's 20-yard line where poe returned it to his 60-yard line lehigh then carried the ball right down the field and barnard with good interference skirted the end for a second touchdown fitz gerald kicked an easy goal score : lehigh 10 b a c 0 time 12 minutes parmly again kicked off and holderness caught and gained 15 yards barnard then went around the end for 25 yards and van duyne carried it 10 yards further lehigh then lost the ball on a fum ble and parr kicked it back to the centre of the field lehigh again started to rush the ball down the field on straight gains through the line of barnard and van duyne but time was called for the first half on baltimore's 15-yard line just as barnard had started around the end with a clean field and good interference for a touchdown after a rest of 10 minutes play was started with lehigh having the kick-off thurston took van duyne's place at right half fitz gerald kicked off and burlingame secured the ball and made 5 yards baltimore then lost the ball on downs on her 25 yard line from where thurston and barnard be gan to work it slowly towards the goal line with the ball on their 7-yard line baltimore braced and held lehigh for 3 downs on the fourth thurston went through and
