97 john boyt b ©.. curtis j li sheppard c w thorn w e underwood 98 h chasmar h m bag gett c i heisey before the week is over a list will be posted in packer hall showing all men paid up the above-mentioned rule will be strictly enforced j b given manager penn's students club house the howard houston hall which was recently opened at the university of pennsylvania is a gift from mr houston the hall has cost in construction 148,000 the cost of maintenance will prob ably reach 10,000 yearly this will be met by membership dues which are one dollar per year fees and contributions membership is free to all under graduates and alumni while the use of the hall is free to all only members are permitted to use the special privileges the equipment of the hall is very complete con sisting of rooms for playing bil liards chess and checkers for dancing reading and smoking it also contains rooms for photo graphing a bowling alley and a swimming pool which is 100 by 50 feet in dimensions lined through with marble dressing rooms and baths shower needle and plunge are in sufficient numbers the club now has a membership of more than 1400 engineering society the regular business meeting of the engineering society was held in the physical laboratory hall thursday night the meeting was called to order by president cun ningham and after roll call and reading of minutes the report of the committee appointed to make the necessary arrangements relative to mr davenport's death was read ; the committee having finished its work it was moved that it be dis charged with thanks next in order was a discussion as to the lecture course which the society proposes to have this term the following committee was appointed to look into this matter : dutcher 96 merriman 97 and sheppard 98 it was moved that a banquet committee be appointed by the president to arrange for the annual banquet of the society there being a desire upon the part of some miners to join the society it was decided to have a committee consisting of the president and the chairmen of each of the two sec tions this committee to look into the matter and report as to the advisability of forming a mining section of the society in the absence of mr given the president gave a short account of the progress of the lehigh engi neer the new publication contem plated by the society and the faculty this paper would have been published last year but the faculty objected to any new maga zine being started until the debt of the old quarterly had been paid off this debt has been reduced from three hundred dollars which amount it was last june to two hundred dollars one hundred and thirty dollars are now on hand in cluding fifteen dollars the proceeds of the sale of some of the journals held by the society this latter amount was voted to be given to the board of the engineer to help pay off the debt with the money now in possession of the board together with that promised by the faculty the debt will soon be paid off the engineer will be made a 96 class book the senior class book board held a lengthy meeting on friday night at which the exact expense of the publication was decided upon and the general make-up of the book was planned a circular letter to the class giving a some what detailed description of the volume will be handed to each member by one of the board in the early part of next week and upon the replies to these circulars the whole future of the class book depends the board is counting on ve^y loyal support from the class the book as decided upon will include besides a portrait of each member of the class a history and general description of him and a tabulated collection of the class facts votes opinions and such a group picture of the class and pho lehigh university south bethlehem pa january 20 1896 vol 111 no 29 the brown and white university publication ; the board of editors to consist of a member of the faculty an alumnus and several undergraduates tographs of the campus and faculty will also be included besides the doings and the history of the class as a whole and the part that it has taken in the athletic literary social scholastic dramatic and musical life of the college the book will not be marred by any inter-cover advertisements and will be bound similar to the special edition of the 96 epitome in all respects the volume will be as handsome and interesting a collec tion of data as has yet been pub lished at lehigh the minimum cost for this work in its best form was calculated at 9 this being on the basis that almost the entire class will purchase ;
