lafayette 3 for the second time lehigh de feated lafayette at chess last night by the above score this contest had been looked forward to for some time chess experts of both colleges were thoroughly prepared for the match so the score clearly indicates the relative abilities of the teams the tournament was held in south college on the cam pus at easton lafayette won the choice ot opening for the first round and they selected the defense the men were paired as follows : lehigh lafayette badgley vs singer thompson vs craig wilson vs brinker dunnells vs crobaugn moritz vs scarier piez vs herr on the first round badgley open ed with the king's bishop and held the attack all through the game winning after 38 moves at which time he was a rook ahead thompson selected king's gam bit to open and alter a hard and well played game won in 43 moves wilson opened with the giuoco piano gained a piece in the middle game and won easily in 26 moves dunnells used the king's bishop opening and it was defended with the two knights he won in 56 moves moritz played an irregular open ing and winning a piece in the end game won in 38 moves piez and herr played the four knight game to 51 moves when piez resigned thus the first round ended le high 5 ;
