lehigh vs harvard next monday afternoon may 4 at 4 o'clock our lacrosse team will play harvard's representatives for the first time the game will be played on our athletic field and promises to be one of unusual interest the harvard team con tains a number of players of con siderable experience and has been carefully trained consequently the game should be exciting and very evenly contested our players have fixed a high standard for themselves by their work on sat urday and if they show the im provement next monday which a week's practice warrants us in expecting they ought to win however the crimson players are far from novices at lacrosse and practiced daily during their recent spring recess they will play johns hopkins on saturday and a comparison of the result of that game with the lehigh game will give some idea of the strength of our rivals for the championship it is to be hoped that a lehigh harvard lacrosse game will be a regular thing on our future sche dules and that the cambridge team will soon enter the inter collegiate lacrosse associaiton for the effect of such a step would be to make the game more popular as a college sport mr patterson's lec ture as previously announced in the brown and white mr c stuart patterson dean of the university of pennsylvania will deliver a lec ture on the gold standard of value in the physical laboratory of the lehigh university on fri day evening at 8 o'clock mr patterson's eminence as a constitu tional lawyer and the prominent position he occupies in the schol astic world is a guarantee of a thoughtful and earnest presentation of a subject of intense national and industrial importance notice an election for assistant mana ger of the lacrosse team will be held in the lounging room christ mas hall tomorrow friday from 11.30 to 12.45 christmas hall ac counts at the meeting of the christmas hall committee on wednesday the accounts of dutcher 96 96 treas urer of the committee were audited the receipts by classes monmouth illinois adop ted student government the gov erning power is vested in the presi dent three members of the faculy and three students all questions pertaing to college government will be referred to them seventy-five millions of ameri can money have been given to the cause of education within the last twenty-five years — university herald mathematical club the regular meeting of the above club was held last night when yoh.n 97 read a paper on " lines and circles by the abridged nota tion applied to the discussions of orthogonal circles two circles intersect orthogonally when the tangents at their points of intersec tion are at right angles to each other mr yohn took several examples in which he proved that the required conditions were filled to make the circles orthogonal the radical axis of two circles was next explained it is the locus of a point which moves so that the lengths of the tangents drawn from it to the two circles are equal the author showed that the radical axis is perpendicular to the line joining the centres of the two cir cles and also if three circles be taken in pairs the three radical axes thus obtained meet in a point these facts were also proved geometrically coaxal circles were next taken up such being a system of circles having a common radical axis the equation and limiting points of a system of coaxal circles were discussed the paper showed a great deal of application on the part of the author and was very much appreciated by those present baseball lehigh i princeton ig on wednesday the baseball team went to contest with princeton college on its home grounds the day was all that could be desired for a game and the grounds were in the finest condition a crowd of several hundred people watched the game which opened very aus picioucly for lehigh princeton hit gannon frequently and at the right time while lebigh's hits were few and scattered wilson for princeton pitched three innings then jane pitched until the sixth when easton took the box and wheeler went to left field tay lor and grace were changed about in the fifth inning the game was called at the end of the seventh inning to allow lehigh to catch their train ■the first inning opened with princeton at the bat and they were retired in one two three order on two liners to pitcher and a fly to third lehigh was also retired in the same manner in her half carman knocked the ball to third snyder a short one to first and lenior after having made a hit and stolen second was caught napping in the second inning princeton made one run on two hits and an error for lehigh just three men batted ; a fly to right and two strike-outs constituting the play princeton started run making in rapid manner in the third when six runs were made they were aided by two errors and four bases on balls in this inning lehigh made her only run eeed struck out w gannon hit to right stole second and third aided by two errors and came home on a wild pitch taylor went out on a pop fly carman was hit by pitched ball and snyder went out on strikes four ■bits together with four errors and three bases on balls gave princeton seven runs in the fourth inning for lehigh senior hit a hard drive to centre and stole second a fly by grace was caught by san key who threw senior out at second t gannon went out on a grounder to third ward reached first on t gan non's error but in trying to steal second was caught titus made a hit to left and stole second jayne struck out and gunster made a three-base hit which brought in titus sankey went out to short for lehigh chasmar
