whereas the fact is that there are probably one hundred benign bacteria to one that is malignant moreover bacteriologists have in many cases succeeded in using the malignant bacteria as a source of protection against diseases ; as for instance the production of anti-toxine from the diphtheria germ professor sedgwick in his lec ture will give a description of the growth of bacteriology since it first was developed into a science by pasteur to the present time ; and will show how a knowledge of the existence and functions of micro-organisms has a direct bear ing upon agriculture sewage puri fication and curative medicine the lecture will be fully illus trated by lantern slides it will begin at 8 o'clock friday evening in the physical laboratory notices president there will be a very important meeting of the sophomore class in the physical laboratory at 12.30 p m may 27 at this meeting the epitome board will be elected and other business of importance will be transacted 96 — the subscriptions for the class memorial will be received at any time between now and june 171 7 by any member d w wilson jr 11 11 beck t lewis j l eankin w b taylor copies of the songs to be sung at the lacrosse game on saturday will be distributed at the athletic grounds tomorrow afternoon at 4.30 everybody come out at that time and practice so that the sing ing on saturday may be a success agora the agora is about to close per haps the most successful year in its history after a number of in teresting debates among the mem bers its representatives easily de feated lafayette in the annual contest this should be the means of arousing increased interest in the work of next year through the efforts of president drown the sum of two hundred dollars was secured for the fitting up of a room in sau con hall and this work will soon be commenced the meeting for the nomination of officers will be held tomorrow evening at 6.45 o'clock in christmas hall any per sons desiring to become members for next year are requested to hand in their names or be present at that time during the term the nucleus of a library has been secured and with a new room to be opened next term all that is needed to furnish lehigh with a first class literary society will be the enthusiasm of a considerable part of the student body the university of michigan has commenced work on a woman's gymnasium lacrosse training mr kirk our lacrosse coach who is captain of the madoc team has made a very generous offer it is that any lehigh man who will spend part of the summer in madoc ontario will be given a place on the madoc second twelve the best of opportunities will thus be given to learn the game of lacrosse three men have already agreed to go it is to be hoped that several more will avail themselves of this offer for information in regard to expenses and other details see mr kirk senior examinations may june 1896 it is said that the university of virginia has had the honor system for sixty years there are 226 men at columbia receiving tuition free or reduced the university of chicago will erect a museum to be used wholly as a repository of oriental relics howitz 94 was around the campus on tuesday baseball lehigh 10 ;
