time 12 minutes tfenchard was again unable to make the goal and the score stood : princeton 8 ; lehigh 0 the ball was brought out and fitzgerald kicked off trenchard caught the ball and becerra down ed him before he could start ward could make no gain nor mccor mack then ward made 80 yards and then 10 more mccormack made 5 ward 3 and mccormack 2 then lehigh got the ball on downs and 5 yards for offside play thurston lost 5 yards on the double pass and fitzgerald kicked for 85 yards mccormack then made 20 yards through the line and ward lost 3 . burt then then tried a drop ; the ball hit wheeler and rebounded he tried again but the ball was low princeton then lined up on the 10 yard line and fitzgerald punted the ball out on the line-up burt tried for a third time to kick a goal from the field and a third time was unsuc cessful before anything further could be done the whistle sounded and the second half was over the score which should have been at least 8 4 stood 8 0 for princeton both sides fumbled a little espec ially princeton and the playing was a trifle rough throughout prince ton making every possible endeavor to use her superior weight the cheering was particularly good and eyery good play met with ap plause altogether it was a game to be proud of and no one had any thing but words of praise for le high's socalled green team the umpire and referee for the first half were respectively mr dashiell and mr marsh ; flickinger photographs ; merien & co webster's dictionaries retail price 12 to be sold for 9 be side these there are a number of epitomes which have not yet been sold any member of the board will take orders for the book and in this way prompt delivery will be insured they may also be ob tained at the supply bureau and at the book stores at a mass meeting of the students of brown university in the inter ests of the football association the sum of 1,600 was pledged for the support of the eleven we score but the referee does not see it princeton 8 lehigh o saturday afternoon saw one of the largest crowds ever assembled on the athletic field to witness the much looked-forward-to game with princeton and to say that anyone was less than delighted with the work of the home team would be the grossest sort of perjury ex cept for a light wind the day was everything that could be desired and besides the regular crowd there was a large turnout of carriages coaches etc and even one tally-ho armed with a large and aggressive tin horn the game was adver tised to begin at 8 o'clock but the start was a trifle late the inter vening time however was very pleasantly passed in listening to the artistic guying of the freshmen that emanated from the high places of the bleachers at 3.30 the teams lined up pirnceton had the ball and lehigh defended the west goal lee kicked off harrison catching the ball he was downed in his tracks and best severely injured his nose in the scrimmage a few moments time were allowed while the in jured man provided himself with a new nose guard and the game pro ceeded ' in three successive downs no gain was made and fitzgerald kicked for 35 yards burt caught it and made 5 yards on the next he could not advance it but on the succeeding he made 3 more in the next play there was a fumble and princeton lost 8 yards ward then made a run of 80 yards mccormack could not move it ; burt made 2 and mccormack 20 and then 4 on the next down he fumbled losing 11 yards and the ball went to lehigh harrison took it around the end for 3 but thurston could not gain an inch so fitzgerald kicked again ward catching he was downed where he stood by houston burt then made ] 1 yards and ward followed with 8 mccormack started out tremendously but was dropped by trafton when he had made 1 yard just here happened some offside play on the part of lehigh and princeton was granted 10 yards in consequence ward made 2 yards and then he fumbled the ball which went to lehigh thurston made 6 yards earrison 0 trafton 5 harrison 0 fitzgerald 2s fitz gerald then kicked ; but the ball went out of bounds and being dropped upon by budd went again to lehigh a gain of 20 yards it was now on princeton's 40 yard line in the next down thurston made no gaia for lehigh and a bad fumble gave princeton the ball at a loss of 5 yards brown dropping on the ball mccormack made 2 yards and ward 3 which he fol lowed up by a run of 25 more houston was here hurt in the knee and some more time allowed while the injured member is at tended to mccormack then made 18 yards before he was downed by trafton the ball was now danger ously near lehigh's goal on the next down burt made 5 yards then mccormack made 8 and ward carried it across the line for the first touchdown ; time 16 minutes trench ard could not kick a some what difficult goal and the score stood princeton 4 ; lehigh 0 on the kick burt caught the ball trafton immediately tackled him and the ball was fumbled going to lehigh on princeton's 20-_yard line thurston could not gain but harri son made a brilliant run of 15 yards thurston then took the ball and carriecl it fairly over princeton's line wheeler tackled him viciously and dragged him back about a foot in front of the line claiming he downed him there umpire dashiell had not seen the play and allowed princeton the claim three des perate attempts were then made to carry the ball across the line two by captain trafton between guard and tackle and one by a regular mass play but they were unsuccess ful and the ball went to the other side fitzgerald caught burt's kick and was downed on the 25 yard line harrison made 5 yards and thurston 2 and then fitzgerald tried a drop kick for goal ward caught it and okeson downed him on the 10 yard line ward then made 6 yards and mccormack 5 mccormack could not gain on the next down and burt punted ; har rison caught the ball and was downed on the 40-yard line when time for the first half was called the second half was called at 3.55 after both sides had had their well-earned recess yates took best's place at left end for lehigh holley took armstrong's at left tackle for princeton and s h thompson took smith's at right end thompson caught fitzgerald's kick-off and was downed by traf ton after he had made 5 yards burt made 4 but succeeding downs failed to advance the ball and it went to lehigh harrison made 1 yard and thurston lost 5 fitz gerald then kicked to trenchard who was dropped in his tracks mccormack made 1 yard to be beautifully stopped by okeson burt then kicked to harrison ground was only lost and the ball went back to princeton on fitz gerald's kick to burt mccormack made 5 yards only to be downed by a fine tackle of houston's ward made 20 yards and was downed by okeson lehigh got 10 yards for offside play here ow ing to some bickering over the line a mass-play failed to advance nor could harrison make a gain on the third down so fitzgerald kicked again burt caught 1,1k ball and was downed by trafton ;
