vol 11 football lehigh defeats laf ayette by the score of n-8 the tables are turned in a hotly con tested game xehigh has again shown what lehigh spirit and pluck can ac complish in the face of adverse circumstances in the game saturday afternoon there was not a man on our team whose playing did not merit and receive the highest praise for lafayette eeinhart boericke and barclay played especially well the game was witnessed by more than 1500 people the largest attendance of the year the after noon was perfect for football and the waving banners and streamers the college yells and songs added zest to the contest captain trafton won the toss and chose to defend the west goal at about 3.15 the ball was put in play eeinharl kicked off for lafayette well towards lehigh's goal the pigskin was caught by best who ran it back 15 yards harrison then gained 5 yards on a hard plunge through the line barnard followed with two and fitzgerald with one more fitzgerald then kicked for 40 yards his punting all through the game was of a very high order sigman caught but was downed in his tracks by okeson barclay then gained 3 yards and walbridge two more but on the next three attempts lafayette failed to gain and the ball went to lehigh on downs lehigh could not gain and fitzgerald kicked the ball over lafayettes's line but it was called back and given to lafayette for holding lafayette's three backs each made 2 yards but the ball was given to lehigh for holding fitz gerald kicked and barclay was downed in his tracks sigman kicked after two unavailing at tempts to bunch the-centre but the ball was called back and 10 yards given to lafayette for holding after two gains by the backs le high got the ball on downs and kicked to lafayette's 15-yard line barclay on houston's " hard tackle failed to gain but on the next play which was a fake kick broke through for 25 yards but was brought down by harrison barclay plung ed through the line for 3 yards more but the ball was given to lehigh for holding on the next play lehigh fumbled and lafay ette got the ball on rushes through the centre by barclay sigman walbridge boericke and eowland the ball was advanced to lehigh's 35-yard line where le high got it on a foul after short gains by harrison and barnard fitzgerald kicked to lafayette's 40-yard line where sigman who calendar monday nov 26 — banjo club they may toe paid to any editor at the supply bureau or addressed to the business manager an important meeting of the sophomore class will be held on tuesday at 12.30 o'clock the class representatives on the stu dents court will be elected gained two and eowland three and the ball was going slowly but sure ly towards lehigh s goal posts barclay and sigman each gained a half yard and to these barclay added three more here 5 yards were given to lafayette for off side play after the failures to gain sigman on a fake kick broke through for 2 yards lehigh held well on her 5 yard line and got the ball on 4 downs fitzgerald kicked out of danger to his 80 yard line where barclay caught but was tackled by best lafayette then again began to work towards the coveted goal line sig man gained 2j yards barclay gain ed r yards and then added 2 more eowland broke through for 2 and barclay followed with 2 more runs of 6 and 2 yards respectively sig man then gained 4 yards and the ball was on our 3 yard line and it looked as if it were impossible to stop the onslaught but on the next line up there was a fumble in which the ball rolled over the line and was fallen on by best for a safety time 22 minutes with one minute more to play lehigh kicked off from the centre of the field to lafayette's 15 yard line when strader caught it and ran it back to the centre boe ricke then gained 2 yards but on the line up time was called the teams lined up as follows : lehigh positions lafayette okeson left end reeder attix houston left tackle boericke trafton left guard rowland keys center jordan becarra right guard reinhart budd right tackle lee best right end jones gass quarter-back vincent harrison right half back barclay barnard left half-back walbridge fitzgerald full-back sigman touchdowns barclay and harrison goals sigman and fitzgerald goal from field fitzgerald referee dumont lafayette umpire james princeton linesman floyd lehigh caught was thrown in his tracks by best after a short gain by bar clay lafayette was given 10 yards for off-side play and added 3 more by rushes but sigman was forced to kick to harrison then com menced a series of beautiful plays harrison with fine interference ran 20 yards around the left end ; barnard added 10 more around the right-end and one more through the line at this juncture wal bridge was hurt but pluckily re sumed play harrison and fitz gerald plunged through centre for a yard and then dropped back and from the 30-yard line kicked a beautiful goal from the field which gave lehigh the first point time 20 minutes eeinhart kicked off from centre and harrison caught and ran it back 15 yards barnard gained 2 yards and fitzgerald made a short gain but was forced to kick sig man catching on his 45-yard line then lafayette commenced a series of brilliant plays which finally carried the ball over for a touch-down barclay and wal bridge each gained 5 yards ; sig man added 2 and then boericke by a brilliant run gained 15 yards walbridge made a short gain but lee was more successful carrying the ball 6 yards before being stopped eowland waded through the centre for 4 more and wal bridge in two runs made 10 yards sigman added 4 and eeinhart 2 the ball was then inside the 5 yard line and the playing was fast and furious but after several at tempts barclay was shoved over for a touchdown from which he kicked an easy goal time 9 minutes fitzgerald kicked off and'sig man catching the ball on his 15 yard line gained 10 yards before being brought down walbridge failed to gain but boericke gained 6 yards barclay failed to gain walbridge gained 2 yards but eowland failed and it was lehigh's ball on lafayette's 35-yard line barnard gained 4 yards but har rison failed and fitzgerald dropped back for another try at a goal from the field the ball was blocked and best fell on it fitzgerald kicked to lafayette's 5 yard line where sigman caught on the next line up walbridge gained 10 yards but time was called with the ballon lafayette's 15 yard line leaving the final score for the first half 6-5 in favor of lafayette the ball with the exception of lafayette's brilliant spurt to a touchdown had been almost entire ly in her territory and lehigh was playing such a hne game against superior might that her supporters were greatly encouraged after an intermission of ten minutes the game began with the ball in lehigh's possession of lafayette's team eeeder left-end and walbridge right-half were compelled to retire their places being taken by attix and sigman ; strader taking sigman's place at full-back lehigh kicked off and strader caught on his 10-yard line and ran it back 20 yards barclay and strader each gained 2 yards and boericke followed with a plunge of 6 yards strader gained one and a half yards and eowland 6 more but at this point vincent lost 3 and strader kicked barnard catching on his 30-yard line and gained 3 yards which he followed with 2 more on the line up traf ton then gained 1 but lehigh was forced to kick strader catching on his 35-yard line barclay failed to gain and strader kicked harrison fumbling it and lafayette got the ball in the centre of the field on the next line up lafayette fumbled and lehigh got the ball on a double pass harrison failed to gain barnard made 2 yards lehigh kicked and sigman caught it gaining 5 yards before being downed barclay lost 2 yards but eeinhart gained 6 strader then attempted to kick but it was blocked and okeson got it on lafayette's 15-yard line trafton by two bull-like rushes carried it to the 8-yard line and then harri son with beautiful interference ran around the left end for a touch down trom which fitzgerald kicked an easy goal time 12 minutes score 11-6 eeinhart kicked off and fitz gerald catching on yard and then lehigh kicked to lafayette's 35 yard line where barclay caught it lafayette fumbled and best fell on the ball barnard then gained 4 and trafton added 4 more har rison made a brilliant run of 20 yards and the ball was dangerously near lafayette's line trafton gained 4 more fitzgerald 1 and trafton l'j but here lafayette on their 3-yard line made a gallant stand and got the ball on downs strader kicked to his 40-yard line where harrison caught it ■and gained 5 yards before being tackled on the next line up lafayette got the ball on a fumble and strader kicked to lehigh's 35-yard line where harrison caught and gained 3 yards barnard and trafton each made small gains but lafayette got the ball on downs boericke and barclay failed to gain and strader kicked to lehigh's 10-yard line harrison caught it and gained 5 yards barnard lost 3 and fitzgerald kicked to 1 his 35 - yard line where barclay caught but was tackled in his tracks by okeson boericke failed to gam but barclay went through the centre for 3 yards in a fake kick on the next play he added two more and after strader failed to gain made two more runs net ting him 4 yards sigman then lehigh university south
