the last meeting of che engi neering society of the term was held monday evening in the phy sical laboratory there not being forty-eight mem bers present nothing could be done to institute the associate member ship for sophomores the committee on the journal of the engineering society made its report it had decided favor ably on starting a technical paper as soon as forty members of the society sign a promissory note for 2.50 which amount is to be used at the end of the term in case the paper should not be self-supporting the committee submitted a con stitution for the paper which was accepted with a few additions the board of editors is to consist of six seniors and four juniors ; also four honorary editors chosen from the instructors of the courses in civil engineering and architecture me chanical engineering mining engi neering and electrical engineering it may also be noted that the busi ness manager must be a junior the board of undergraduate editors was then elected the men are baker ferris keim mau rice steinmetz and yansant from 95 beeler cunningham daven port and e e taylor from 96 freshman class meet ing at a meeting held in professor chandler's lecture room at 12.30 o'clock tuesday harrison resigned his position as member of the stu dents court the following men were nomi nated to succeed him roper bailey perley and g c leidy fitzgerald and downing declined nomina tions the election was held by ballot and roper was elected as there was no further business the meeting adjourned s c c meeting the ninth meeting of the soph omore cotilion club was held at the delta phi chapter house on last monday evening the meeting was called to order by president wallace and upon the withdrawal of bell the election of scott for treasurer was made unanimous the announcement of the elections of members will shortly be made public + w c carnell 94 is chemist for the south chicago iron works the football season now that the season has closed it might be well to glance over the work of the iootball team unlike the large colleges and universities lehigh has to omit summer prac tice and begin her football season at the opening of the collegiate year with an entire new back field to be secured the prospects did not appear favorable but the freshman class produced some excellent ma terial while the return of houston and saltzman brightened things considerably the team opened the season with a rush by defeating rutgers 24 to 0 and as the latter team shortly afterwards defeated lafayette by a score of 12 to 10 all interest in our old rival died we followed up the good work by holding princeton's champion team down to eight points and came within an ace of scoring ourselves swarthmore was easily defeated on the following wednesday but here the good work ended games with yale u of p in dians princeton orange a c university of north carolina an napolis and yale again followed each other in rapid succession victory came in the contests with university of n c and the in dians but both of these teams scored the latter twice to make matters woree lafayette defeated the team to the tune of 28 to 0 then was realized the fact that something had to be done or all the remaining matches would be lost the west point game was cancelled and after the ten days rest lafayette's two to one team was beaten 11 to 8 and this was followed up on thanksgiving day by the excellent game against cor nell that a better showing would have been made with less games is proven by the fine spurt at the close the game with princeton came too early in the season the men were not in proper condition and the bad effects were felt for several weeks one game with each of the three large institutions was enough yale did not attempt even this the moving of trafton to half back and . keys to guard were mistakes trafton is a fair half back but a star guard keys is an indifferent guard but a centre of the first-class with these men in their proper positions the an napolis game certainly and the first lafayette game probably would have resulted differently how they braced the line up in the last two games !
