those men who have not as yet handed in the blank issued by the epitome will please do so imme diately the contest at which lehigh's representatives in the lehigh lafayette debate will be chosen will be held on monday evening april 29 each one who enters will be allowed to debate on the side he prefers the question will be the one to be debated at easton all agora men and outsiders who expect to enter this contest are urged to make good use of the easter holidays a number of men anxious to help lehigh have been hunt ing for information relating to the subject and have reported the re sults of their search to the com mittee this matter and also lists of reference books valuable to men who are working up the sub ject will be gladly given by either f a mckenzie 95 or laramy 96 the committee in charge the new board of the bkown and white will meet at 5 p m tuesday april 16 in the editorial rooms the first competition for the relay team will be held on tues day april 9 about eight men will be selected at this time and from this number the team will be made up those who wish to try for the team will give their names to mr smith or the captain with the time at which they will be at liberty on tuesday let every man try even if there is no chance of making the team as it will be excellent practice for the spring sports f i wheeleb out to march whitmoyer took first on called balls hewlett fumbled beggs grounder and thompson scored on miller's muff of kevins fly petrikin and whitmoyer crossed the plate beggs reaching third and kevins second cleary reached first on four bad balls taylor hit to hewlett who fumbled the ball and beggs scored kevins scored on fishel's failure to field thompson's ground hit petrikin's long single to centre cleared the bases goss hit to third and was safe on fishel's error but was thrown out trying to steal second no scoring was done by either team in the fourth and fifth innings in the sixth lehigh made two runs petrikin and goss who had made hits scored on lukens timely sin gle to left in the latter half of the sixth bowie senior lukens turner and gannon replaced nevins johnson beggs whitmoyer and cleary re spectively but columbia did not profit any by the change until the eighth in the eighth lehigh added an other eight to her tally petrikin hit a long three-bagger to center goss senior and turner followed with singles in rapid succession lukens reached first on hew lett's error bowie's two-base hit cleared the bases bowie scored on hewlett's fumble of gannon's hit taylor reached first on ship man's error thompson singled to right gannon scoring taylor and thompson scored on petrikin's second hit of the inning a clean single to centre petrikin was caught napping off second and goss was out on an infield hit columbia in her half made up for lost time scoring seven runs on four bad errors by lehigh's infield three hits and a base on balls following is the summarized score : in the ninth lehigh scored two on two hits a sacrifice and an error three other hits in this inning were unproductive of runs owing to poor base-running columbia succeeded in adding one to her total on an error and a base hit by choate baseball lehigh 2i columbia 12 the first game of the season was played on the athletic grounds on saturday resulting in a victory for lehigh by the above score the day was cloudy and a chill wind blew from the east and this accounted in a measure for the numerous errors lehigh showed good form in batting seeming to have no trouble in guaging the pitching of stewart the pitcher of the new jersey athletic club who however was not in the best of condition the new men who were tried in the latter half of the game showed up promisingly turner and taylor give promise of developing into good batters and goss also has improved in this respect petri kin's batting was one of the dis tinguishing features of the contest during the five innings kevins pitched columbia secured but two clean hits off his delivery if he continues as he has begun he will be the mainstay of the team this year colter at first base played the best game for columbia an innovation which added in terest to the contest was the score cards handed out at the gate by means of them the spectators could follow more closely the play and keep a record of it they were fully appreciated the game began with lehigh at bat promptly at three o'clock be fore a small crowd which gave but little evidence of enthusiasm dur ing the contest after cleary had struck out taylor singled to center stole sec ond was advanced to third by thompson's sacrifice and crossed the plate with the first run when petrikin hit to the short stop goss reached first on an error by fishel but was thrown out at sec ond when johnson hit to hewlett for columbia march our old lafayette acquaintance reached first on petrikin's muff of his fly ; went to third on an error and was thrown out trying to reach home on colter's hit to beggs hewlett and colter who had both reached first on fielder's choice scored on stewart's hard drive which kevins could not hold stewart was out at second on shattuck's hit to thompson fish el struck out lehigh could not score in the second but in her half columbia added two to her tally on a couple of hits a sacrifice and an error by whitmoyer in the third inning lehigh took a long lead by scoring eight runs thompson the first man up took first on being hit by a pitched ball and took second on petrikin's artistic bunt after goss fly had been caught each advanced a base on a passed ball johnson fouled engineering society banquet the fourth annual banquet of the engineering society was held friday night in the newly fur nished college room in christmas hall although only a small num ber was present a most enjoyable evening was passed the menu cards were neatly arranged ;
